How do I decide which candidate is for me?
Does anyone know of a website that might help me choose my Democratic candidate?

I remember last time there was a site that asked you a bunch of questions about your political views and then matched you up with the candidate that had stances closes to yours.

I'd really appreciate any help on this one!

17. I know which one you mean;
it's been posted here at DU a few times, and I used it. I can't remember its name, or I'd Google it for you!

18. it isn't jsut a matter of who's views allign with yours
the perfect match is useless if he can't get elected.

it sucks but that's just the way it is.

4. you should read this first
read about Howard Dean in his own words (in bold print below):

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Most of the Democrats in the legislature rebelled against Dean over the budget cuts, and he ended up depending on Republican votes to pass most of his proposals. At the time, a local Vermont newspaper wrote, "The biggest items on Dean’s agenda for next year are likely to provoke more opposition from the Democrats than the Republicans. Nevertheless, Dean said he feels no particular pressure to deliver the goods to his party or to promote the Democratic agenda."15

In the mid-1990s, Dean even aligned himself with the likes of Republican Newt Gingrich on his stance on cutting Medicare. He opined at the time, "The way to balance the budget is for Congress to cut Social Security, move the retirement age to 70, cut defense, Medicare and veterans pensions, while the states cut everything else."16
....
The Rutland Herald described how one protestor, Henrietta Jordan of the Vermont Center for Independent Living, "said it would be much fairer to raise taxes on people with expensive homes and cars, children in private school and a housekeeper at home than to cut programs that helped the 66,000 Vermonters living with disabilities."17 Dean responded callously, brushing off the pleas of Vermont’s most vulnerable by saying, "This seems like sort of the last gasp of the left here."18"

8. don't know of a one stop shopping site
but I urge you to check out Edwards' site and his downloadable vision statement.

One nice thing is that he, like Kucinich, has not had to alter it and had it fully thought out from the start.

Have fun and I hope you can find an impartial central place to look but make sure it points how shifting positions, may not be good if you choose and later find you were left behind.

9. I'm undecided right now but
I'm down to Dean or Clark I think. So I sat down and printed out from each of their websites the issues I am most interested in and I am putting them side by side and comparing and contrasting them. I feel like that's the only wy I can make a decision outside of their debating skills and demeanor. You might want to try it, too.

And yet another web site....
You can also try this one. It's pretty in-depth and let's you learn about how you really think. I AM NOT ENDORSING ANY POLITICAL PARTY. I'm a lifelong Democrat (and working person), but thought this was alright. Help yourselves:

13. Al Sharpton?
So I went to the selectsmart.com site, took the quiz and it told me to vote for Al Sharpton. After I got up from rolling on the floor laughing I took a closer look and realized good ol Al was only a percent ahead of Dean. I was torn between Dean, Edwards and Kucinich (I know...3 TOTALLY different candidates) but I think overall, I'm gonna have to go with Dean...

I'll have to do a "little" more research first, though. :)
