Why the Obama Presidency will historically be one of the most important Presidencies
And it has nothing to do with race. Of course the fact that President Obama is bi-racial is transformative, as would Hillary would been as the first woman

There is not doubt, that racism is playing a part in the attacks on our President.

But the reason that President Obama will be a transformative president, is his getting out every day, week after week and addressing a myriad of problems.

The fact that he is being attacked so viciously, shows his pushing change is moving the hell hounds.

When looking back at the Presidents who made the greatest changes in our society, they were vilified one and all, by those who are so afraid of change.

The very attacks prove the President is moving the entrenched off their seats and like cornered curs, they are snarling and attacking.

It is a sign of success.

1. "Mr. Waring, millions of people hate my guts"
FDR said that to a visiting (Republican) band leader to the White House, one time. Said band leader always had a certain respect for FDR after that.

We need lots more Democrats like that.

5. Very good points
Lincoln was vilified in the "vampire press" of his time, called everything from a murderer to "the original gorilla". And yet he is not considered the greatest of our Presidents, greater even than Washington. I have a feeling that Obama is the greatest President in my lifetime.

Continuing the transformation begun by Reagan for turning the White House into Corporate America HQ, Ground Zero for screwing the American citizen? Obama's certainly showing success there (look under: "Wall Street bailout" and "forcing the American people to be captive customers of the insurance industry")

16. I'm sorry to agree with you.
Obama is merely continuing the trajectory that Reagan had set in motion, toward corporate giveaways. G.W. Bush was far worse in other ways, but when it comes to corporate handouts, Obama is right there with W, sad to say.

I like Obama, and I'm thankful we have him instead of that half-cocked loose cannon, McCain. But really. We deserve better than this.
