1. I nearly flipped out at someone the other day who sneezed into the open air

I removed myself from the room immediately. I was nervous for the next 24 hours about getting sick. False alarm.

4. This sneezing into your arm may be good
but it's also kind of silly IMHO. It may work with kids (which obviously would be a very good thing), but for grown ups that have been indoctrinated that you should cover yor mouth with your hand and have done so for years and years my guess is that it has beome second nature and very difficult to change. I just sneezed a few moments ago, an irrelevant, everyday sneeze. My hand went to my face without even thinking.

8. LOL! My 7 yo has been working on me for months to
sneeze like a vampire instead of into my hands. But no matter what, when I sneeze I involuntarily put up my hands. Sigh. One day I'll get it.

arm at the ripe old age of 101. I was amazed that the staff managed to re-train almost all the residents of his retirement center. I decided if my Dad could learn, so could my husband and I and we have. We aren't exactly "kids" at 58 and 63.

7. It's going to be so hard to change though. Just the other day,
I was at a fast food place for a quick lunch. Went inside and was greeted by a clearly brand new employee. He took the order, the money, and then sort of stifled a cough as he handed back my change. Then he coughed into his hands. Clearly he was trying to do the right thing as he had been taught his whole life.

I mentioned (very nicely) that the new standard was to cough into one's elbow, a manager walking by heard me and joined in agreement giving a bit more explanation as to why's and wherefore's and then instructed him to go wash his hands.

It will take time, I think we all need to be patient and courteous about the issue.

Also we need to quit exaggerating the H1N1 flu into something more than what it is, just another flu virus, which if I recall a recent article doesn't kill or disable any more or less folks than any other flu.

10. I didn't think sneezing into your elbow was a new thing. I thought that's
been the recommendation for years? I'm 47yo, so although I remember being told to cover my cough with my hand, but I know that at least since my kids were born (13 years ago), I knew that elbow was preferred. Maybe it's because I work in public health.
