I called Senator Harkin's office today and

congratulated him on his new committee chairmanship. He's been a good senator for the people of my state. I also told the person that Iowa could always count on him to do right by our citizens. I wanted to encourage him to hang tight on a public option and his staff person told me that he is a strong supporter of a public option. She sounded happy to hear someone call with positive feedback.

I'll never forget his moving speech at Wellstone's memorial. You Iowans are lucky to have him.

9. Do you think that the "news" in Iowa

will actually cover Harkin now? Every time they have Grassley on, which is pretty well nightly, I write to them and remind them that Iowa has 2 Senators working on health care. I got an answer once that said "Grassley is more accessible" Harkin's aide told me that he is always trying to get on the news, but they tend to ignore him.

10. Why did Grassley get elected?

What was the deal with that election? Didn't he beat Culver (friend of Teddy, great memorial speech)? Am interested in the takes of any Iowans.

(I like Harkin, and that was a memorable speech at the Wellstone memorial.)
