Beware Those Who Want To Divide Us
I just do not get some of the Obama critics. They post as if Obama has some sort of magic wand that he can wave and instill a strong left of center agenda without any sweat. They post as if the media will bow down to any progressive argument. They post as if Obama can get EVERY Dem vote in the congress whenever he wants on whatever he wants.

And then, when they learn the truth about how our government and media works and see that Obama has to make compromises in order to get anything done. They howl, scream, and stomp their feet, and they quickly want to use terms like "sell outs" and "corporatists". Then, they cry that they will vote for Kucinich, a candidate who was rejected overwhelmingly by DEM voters in 2008 or the hopeless cause that is Nader.

In sum, the Obama critics have been hysterical and over the top. So much so, that sometimes I suspect their true motives. I suspect that many of them just want to sow dissent among the left in order to weaken our resolve. So to them, let me say this. I support this president because he, and he alone, is our best chance to make progress in this country. Yes, we may have to make compromises along the way, but we will get progress.

I've had this fight with some "progressives" before back in 2000 when many of them stated to me, rather flippantly, that Gore was just like Bush, and that there was no difference. Eight years of hardship and trauma to this nation has not dispelled this nonsense, and frankly, I don't know what will.

But, hear me on this, I will be damned if I let any of you split us again. I promise you that I will get in your face with everything in my power to stop you. You are no better than the freepers, and you will be stopped.

5. Always, always, always think about the agenda of those on DU who despise the President.
"He'll never do this."

He does it.

"He'll never do that."

He does it.

"But, but, but.......".

They can never be satisfied.

Why?

Policy differences?

In some genuine cases, yes.

But, more often than not, it crawls much deeper than that.

Again I say, their worst nightmare is that he will be a GREAT President.

Which he will be.

What is their problem?

Think about it.

6. In some ways I agree with you.
Maybe even in most ways. But I disagree with you about 2000. I certainly did see Gore as infinitely better than Bush, but I saw him as compromised by the choice of Lieberman as a running mate. Lieberman was what screamed at me that there was no difference in parties, if not actual candidates. Especially coming in after Clinton's heavily corporate presidency. And the Blue Dogs are continuing that corporate cancer in the party to this day.

(For the record, I voted Nader, but I lived in Massachusetts which was going Dem no matter what. Had I lived in, say, Florida, I would have sucked up my disgust for Lieberman and voted Dem.)
