He should be on TV publicly apologizing. The Wingnuts are not reading his written statement. They are seeing the tape of him shouting "Liar" repeatedly played on television. Not just an "I'm sorry you were offended," but he took responsibility for his actions, at least for a moment. It would have been nice had he apologized to his Congressional colleagues for the lapse in decorum, but this was an unalloyed apology.

He said the right words, anyway. I'm sure he's only sorry that it's going badly for him, and we can take the rapidity of the apology as a measure of just how much of a fuck-up he realizes he's committed.
