It was a multifacted speech. First of all, brilliant on many levels. Tough.
And didn't deliver clearly everything that many of us wanted. It was a triangulation speech, a speech to many Americans. I am sure there is a realization, as Obama heard the heckling and saw the pigs sitting there on the right, that bipartisanship is a noble goal but unreachable to the extent he would prefer.

I was proud, so proud again that he is our president. The last 10 minutes or so, with the Ted letter quote, was amongst the most eloquent parts of a speech I've heard any president give - he gave in a way a window into his soul, a peek into what a fine human being he is, a great husband, great father, a great person.

He aspires to much, and he will achieve slightly less than he wishes or we wish. But he is what we have and we are lucky.

The angry, bitter, miserable, hateful right wing, the big corporate powers and lobbyists are not pleased with this man. They couldn't be, because he is what they will never be. Caring, decent, and working for the people. We all need to remember this as he continues to just come up short of the unreachable expectations that many of us have for him. No one president could deliver us from the anger and bitterness and damage of the Bush years. But you know what? I'll take what we will get from this great man.
