And most likely, the effort to bring about real healthcare reform, reform providing affordable quality healthcare to all of us, has failed with it. It failed because only one side was interested in negotiation and compromise, our side. Their side was interested in one thing: your defeat on this issue.
Mr President, we are still out here waiting for change. We donated, we campaigned, we voted for that change. We voted for you. We still support you. We are your base. We are going to support you in defeat and in victory. We are the Democratic Party base that the Senate Blue Dog coalition views with contempt and takes for granted as they work hand in hand with the opposition party to assure a spectacular defeat for you on health care reform. A spectacular defeat of your administration and their party, a defeat that is very likely to take away control of one or more of the houses of congress in 2010.
We do have one suggestion though. How about we go down fighting for a change? How about we go down fighting for a simple easy to understand health care reform that does away with all of the complications and nonsense, does away with mandates and fines, does away with co-ops and public options and triggers and insurance regulations. How about admitting that your advisors have got it wrong again, that there are no republicans to work with, that we have to go it alone, we have to go big, we have to go simple and easy to understand, and we have to go for broke? You've already been handed defeat, all that is left is to transform that fact into victory.
Medicare for everyone. It is that simple.
