Abraham Lincoln on "Labor"
"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration."

Lincoln's First Annual Message to Congress, December 3, 1861.

Happy Labor Day!

1. Ah, yes. Who was the "party of Lincoln", again?
Edited on Mon Sep-07-09 12:04 PM by Deja Q
That's right! The same one as the purported "party of family values" AND the "party of fiscal responsibility"!

In short, when a republican says "We are the party of _____", INSTANTLY think the polar opposite in terms of what they do compared to what they say.

It's an easy enough a thing to do and history is replete with their own examples.
