Going Viral for Health Care
OpEdNews: Paul Jacobs - Writer

" After Nancy Pelosi took impeachment off the table, I reregistered as an independent voter. I could no longer be part of a political party that refuses to even consider prosecuting war crimes.

Well, I'm taking a cue from the Republicans and launching a preemptive strike against the public option being taken off of the table. I am not waiting to see if President Obama is going to backpedal on the public option in his speech to Congress this week.

I have already unsubscribed from receiving emails from the Obama camp and will do the same for any other politician not supporting the public option. When I cancelled my Obama emails, there was an option to say why I cancelled and I wrote two three-word sentences: No public option? No more me!

The public option is the hill I will die on. Politicians know that if a large number of supporters pull their e-subscriptions, so goes a lot of campaign donors and volunteerism.

When the public option passes, I will re-subscribe to Obama emails with a donation to see that more hope turns into actual help. The people were there for Obama when he needed our votes, our contributions, and our support. Now is the time to be there for the people by not backing down from the public option.

The President and Democrats in office need to know what they stand to lose before they sell us short. Don't wait for a trigger, a co-op or some other watered-down version of reform that isn't the public option. Let your representatives know how serious the base is about this issue: Unsubscribe today!

This campaign needs to go viral to have any impact in the days leading to Obama's address to Congress. This issue isn't political – it is simply the right thing to do for Americans. This is the fight for the “life” part of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

Unsubscribe now and then email all your progressive friends to do the same. Let's go viral for health care in America! "

1. Cutting one's nose, etc.
The only chance to have the Public Option is through the Democrats in Congress and the White House.

Why should they care what the likes of the writer think if he will never vote for any of them, not to mention contribute to their campaigns.

4. You've completely missed the point
HE was a contributor.

He removed himself from the list and gave the lack of a public option as the reason.

2. Those who feel betrayed or disenfranchised will choose to protest in their own manner. Do you
believe the Democratic Party will hold down their own party base supporters without any descent should the ' public option ' no longer be a consideration in Obama's coming speech? Maybe the WH and House reps are NOT quite convinced ( and need to be nudged & reminded) that a REAL possibility of supporter blowback could occur stemming from their (possible) decision to abandon the public option.

3. I just unsubscribed from the mailings
My reason?

Betrayal by Barack Obama. No public option? No more me.

6. I think un-subscribing will make a greater impact statement in support of the public option and what
the future voter repercussions may be for the party than any demanding phone calls or letters. Nothing is etched in stone BUT the WH and House needs to be made aware that a percentage of supporters will view a NO-public option as the final deceptive straw and they will be lost.

7. The Republicans are "winning"
Republicans in the insurance companies. Republicans in the pharmaceutical companies. Republicans like Max BlueCross, K*nt Co-op and Rahm Emanuel. And yes, you bet your ass they ARE Republicans. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and gets on its knees before the corporate cock like a duck, it ain't a donkey.

8. Actually, this is the way Democrats lose. Why, because they always seem to find a way of giving
their loyal supporters the golden bird wave AFTER they're elected. Maybe for a change, if they listen to voter sentiments, the same ones who put them into office and stopped their back room double-talk backpedaling on issues like the health care public option, maybe, as a party, we might achieve some wonderful things for ALL the people. I can't believe we are having this discussion when as of this moment, we hold a round house majority.
