1. President Obama, to reinforce your Chicken Little squawking,
not only has sold out his principles, but has arranged for the merciless slaughter of many pets, has set fires in drought-stricken forests and then laughed uncontrollably as homes and businesses burned to a crisp, has poisoned ground water, contaminated food supplies with lethal diseases, pissed on churches and temples, defaced public property, and is at this hour coordinating an initiative to confiscate books, music, guns, gardening equipment, dishes, scooters, keys, buses, medicine, and potato chips.

Hope you're happy.

There isn't even a final piece of legislation yet. Jesus. Let's at least let the president go to bat in his half of the inning.

pass up high-end corporate law jobs to return to metropolitan Chicago to work as a community organizer.

11. I think some of the left blogs slip up by trying to case-shape Obama as
FDR or as Lincoln or what have you.

I think they miss that he is Obama. And his (likely) two-term presidency is still very new.

13. IMO. Obama, as he has said many times, is talking a bet on the American people,
Edited on Sat Sep-05-09 10:36 AM by denem
Namely, that common sense, common purpose and sanity will prevail. It's idealistic, risky, but the pay offs are huge.

14. Yes. And worth the fight. A gamble is also on the table for the
Pukes and blue dogs, as they're betting that this initiative will be beaten back and that critical mass will be denied on voters' relationship of health insurance companies.

If they lose this bet, they will have lost a whole lot. If Obama prevails here, all of Mitt Romney's money and all of Mike Huckabee's preacherly charm won't be nearly enough to defeat him.

The Right, handed the opportunity to be part of historic praise-worthy legislation, bent over to corporate concerns and behaved like horse's patoots.

Besides, the real key to Huckabee's political magic is his McCartneyesque bass playing.

speaks to audiences as if to a small, local congregation.

I think it will take him farther than Romney's money will take Romney.

his likely instantaneous willingness to invoke New Testament passages to smoke-screen Republican indifference to the disenfranchised.

67. That is true, and it is unfortunate. He is in a position to very positively
impact his own party, which is still deep in the mattress with the fundamentalist crazies who claim to be "Christian."

Huckabee could follow your advice if he wanted to, but he is choosing not to, and instead we're hearing from him the same skewed spew of any bargain-store televangelist.

If there's any greatness in Mike Huckabee, it doesn't appear to be a dominant feature.

Despite that, they still worked their asses off to reelect him.

And if we can get health care, plus an Iraq/Afghanistan pullout by 2010 and the EFCA, the party will be united for a second Obama term.

52. if President Obama had run for office as a leftwing progressive and promised to aggressively push
for sweeping leftwing progressive legislation and executive actions along with promising to follow a distinctly leftwing progressive, "Come home America" foreign policy - If this is what he had represented himself as - I would now be bitterly disappointed.
Because those are ideas I do believe in, yet recognize that the current political culture of the United States almost excludes from mainstream political discussion.

The fact is, even in Senator Obama's debut on the national and international stage at the 2004 Democratic National Convention - Illinois State Senator and U.S. Senatorial candidate Barack Obama, talked about, "no red states - no blue states, "no conservative America - no liberal America". From the beginning and to the end of his campaign Barack Obama made it unmistakably clear that he is not a leftie like myself, he is closer to being what is commonly called a centrist. I knew that when I gave him my full support - fully recognizing that he did not hold the same political agenda that I embrace.

I recognize that politics rarely offers for those of us on the left the opportunity to vote for our agenda. It does offers us however, the opportunity to thwart the agenda of the most extremist and reactionary elements the post World War II western world has ever seen. In that President Obama is being very successful, as evidenced by their insane fury.

I'm a big supporter but I'm not silly enough to think he isn't a global corporatist and never was. This is the beginning of our road if we have some sticktoitiveness, not the end.

Obama was never anything but the 1st step in the right direction of digging out of Reaganism, as I have tried to say for all this time.
