6. Home schooling is a great option
The parents should consider homeschooling if they are so concerned what their darlings may be exposed to. But then again, they would have to give up their free babysitting service.

8. from the reaction of many public school districts -
it seems you might want to homeschool to ENSURE that your child is getting exposed to a broad range of opinion.

(Note: not all homeschoolers are wingnut fundies. There are a whole damn lot of liberals who homeschool. In fact, there are quite a few right here on DU! gasp! )

10. If home-schooling really allows for a broad range of public opinion, fine
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 05:53 PM by robo50
But I know of NO liberal public school employee who chooses to home school, why is that?

Paradox? Coincidence? Or some other obvious reason?

16. just because you don't know them
doesn't mean they don't exist.

I personally know of parents who used to be public school teachers who quit working and decided to homeschool because of the stifling atmosphere of the districts in which they lived.

Many - in fact MOST - kids are homeschooled for EDUCATIONAL reasons. Some children just do not thrive in a typical classroom environment. Gifted kids, learning disabled kids, different kids, quirky kids, aspie kids, autistic kids, so there are a plenty of people who homeschool - including former LIBERAL school teachers!

24. Thank you!
Liberals were some of the most vehement early proponents and friends of homeschooling.

9. I know, it's getting ridiculous... less than 50% want their kids to
see the POTUS on TV in school.

What does that tell us?

Well: 1) After Tuesday, we will know how UNrepresentative these stupid polls are.

2) There are a lot of Freepers jamming this poll site

3) There are a lot of stupid racists in the USA with computers.

15. Conservatardness is ONE thing, outright lunacy based upon race and fear
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 06:05 PM by robo50
is quite another. I know many conservatards who will listen to the President, and simply will not understand the message at all. They are, in a real sense, unreachable, as dumb after they hear the facts, as they were before they listened.

17. It's kind of a messed up poll
because it puts something in binary terms which maybe shouldn't be binary.

There are people who think it should be mandatory for everyone.
There are people who think it should be shown in government classes in that context.
There are people who want their kids to see it and support an opt out clause.
There are people who want their kids to see it but not in the school setting at all.
There are people who can't answer the question until they know what's in speech.

I can envision someone pushing no as a protest vote in a poll like that even though they want their kid personally to see it, because they oppose it being mandatory.

14. Too late, there is a robocall campaign going on all weekend
The racists and right wing loonies are pulling out all the stops, full speed ahead, they want all these non-scientific polls to reflect the America of 1950, when separate was supposed to be equal.

20. Sure. Of course they're 25 and 22.
But the fact that they will TiVo the thing and watch it after work or after a college class gives you an idea what the answer would have been if they'd been little.

I've said this before, but I'd encourage people with little ones to hold speech watching parties, whewre they watch it with their kids, have a long, positive talk about how they CAN help the president, and alert the local media about it.

Until Americans decide to re-regulate, not much positive is going to be accomplished.
