Got this off of another website that I read and thought everyone would like to see it. Credit goes to Fred F. This is a response to someone who felt that Kerry was not the best choice. GO JK!
He fought for the nation literally doing two tours (not "four months" as the Right-wing media like to say, the second tour was 4 months). When he got back he fought for what he believed in by protesting the war. He earned the right to protest that war. Contrary to what the Republican spin machine would have you believe, dissent is not unpatriotic, and saying that the war in Iraq is a failure does not make you un-American.
He fought for what he believed in as a prosecutor, taking organized crime head-on and putting the #2 organized crime figure in New England. He also fought for victims rights, especially rape victims.
In his first term in the Senate he smelled an awful stench emanating from the White House and dug a bit and uncovered the Iran Contra affair. He found this by tracing the flow of drugs - from his days as a prosecutor he had been fighting the drug war specifically how drugs were used to finance criminal activity.
Bush beats him up over the yes vote for the Iraq war followed by saying that the war was wrong. The president needed war authority at that point, but nobody outside the white house could have known that Bush was lying about intel, lying when he said he would seek a broad coalition (NB: Great Britain reducing its troop strength by 1/3 in October - we're going to be the only country there pretty soon), and would totally bumble the entire mission, ignoring his military leaders who said that we needed 2x the number of troops in order to secure the country so that things wouldn't get out of hand like they have. Not just that but Kerry didn't know that Bush was lying about WMDs.
As for the $87 billion - Kerry supported a version that would have funded it by rolling back the tax cuts on the wealthy Americans. Bush said he'd veto that version. So note: Kerry in favor of $87 billion, Bush opposed. This also followed Bush's refusal to estimate the cost of the war prior to the budget being passed even though he clearly had an estimate. The version that ended up being passed just borrowed the money - this way the rich can get their tax cuts. Kerry was opposed to the method of funding it. And even with that $87 billion, Bush has still not bothered buying body armor for all of our troops. Disgusting.
Kerry has served admirably on the Foreign Relations Committee for 19 years giving him probably more expertise than the guy sitting in the Oval Office right now (well, he's not actually sitting there. He's either out campaigning or on vacation, depends on the day).
John Kerry's only crime if you will is that he is from Massachusetts, a state wrongly labelled as extremely liberal. "Taxachusetts" has a lower per capita tax burden than say Georgia, and has a Republican governor. Ted Kennedy's association with the state hurts John Kerry more than anything Kerry has done.
Kerry is a very strong candidate. He is not just the "Anyone But Bush" candidate - he will make a very strong president. (Especially if you consider that the Republicans will control the House so even if the Dems get the Senate we will not have single-party rule which is the absolute worst thing for this country in terms of setting policy, IMO).
