The theme in three speeches
No doubt, many have noticed this last year, I did not, until I watched these clips during the tributes to Ted Kennedy:

From JFK 1961 Inaugural Address:

Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage

From Ted Kennedy 1980 Concession speech

For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.

From Ted Kennedy 2008 DNC speech

And this November the torch will be passed again to a new generation of Americans, so with Barack Obama and for you and for me, our country will be committed to his cause. The work begins anew. The hope rises again. And the dream lives on.

1. In otherwords,
AP gets it wrong again:

A torch extinguished

Thank you for that! :)

3. Right. The torch was transfered to a new generation.
It was to JFK, and then to Bill Clinton, and now to Barack Obama.

Whoever wrote that headlines clearly did not bother to understand the meaning of that phrase.

2. The Inaugural Address was sheer artwork.....
..... I realize that's not your point, but I had to throw that in.

4. Not at all. As I was watching on MSNBC the program about the three Kennedy
brothers, listening to their eloquence and remembering Bill Clinton's and Obama's I had to wonder how or why did we end up with such an inarticulate bumbling George Bush. Both of them.

5. ha haaaaa!!!
I was just posting on another non-politics board that I think one fault of this admin is that they may be overestimating the intelligence and willingness to learn of the American People .... instead of writing another LTTE of the New York Times, the President should do a country music video instead ....... "I got run over by a truck and now leg is broke, I'd like to see my doctor, but COBRA is a joke! I got laid off a month ago from the plant by my boss Dan, but I would have good health care if we had a public plan!"

It's disgraceful ..... but it's true.

I think folks may be more suspicious of the President because he's smart than because he's black .... well, maybe it's both. lol

6. Hey, whatever will work
We certainly need to change our way of spreading the word.
