Enough With Corporate Astroturf! List of Progressive Groups SUPPORTING Health Care Reform!
Edited on Mon Aug-24-09 01:17 AM by TomCADem
Progressives may not have huge corporations funding and directing their activities through shell organizations, but we do have some fairly effective progressive groups that are supporting efforts to reform health care:

1. Organizing for America:

"Organizing for America, the successor organization to Obama for America, is building on the movement that elected President Obama by empowering communities across the country to bring about our agenda of change."

http://www.barackobama.com/

2. Health Care for America NOW (HCAN):

"Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is a national grassroots campaign of more than 1,000 organizations in 46 states representing 30 million people dedicated to winning quality, affordable health care we all can count on in 2009. Our organization and principles are supported by President Obama, Vice President Biden, and more than 190 Members of Congress."

3. Health Care Now:

"Healthcare-NOW! is an education and advocacy organization that addresses the health insurance crisis in the U.S by advocating for the passage of national, single-payer healthcare legislation. Right now, the National Health Insurance Act (HR 676) is the only legislation that will create a national, single-payer healthcare system. We see healthcare as a human right, not a privilege tied to the ability to pay."

4. MoveOn.Org:

"The MoveOn family of organizations brings real Americans back into the political process. With 5 million members across America — from carpenters to stay-at-home moms to business leaders – we work together to realize the progressive promise of our country. MoveOn is a service — a way for busy but concerned citizens to find their political voice in a system dominated by big money and big media."

5. Democracy for America:

"Democracy for America is our nation's largest progressive political action community. With over one million members nationwide, DFA is a grassroots powerhouse working to change our country and the Democratic Party from the bottom-up. We provide campaign training, organizing resources, and media exposure so our members have the power to support progressive issues and candidates up and down the ballot. Join us in delivering results for a progressive America."

1. Thank you. K and R
I'm with Pelosi.

Keep it simple.

But keep the pressure up with LTTEs, emails, faxes, and phone calls.

I'm on the mailing lists of all these, plus a few more, plus my congressman's action committees.

Keep the pressure on...

3. Absolutely Agree
These organizations do not get near the free publicity that the astroturf groups gets courtesy of Fox News, so they need all the help they can get for meaningful reform.
