It makes me feel better to think that maybe the worst of them will share an elevator ride with an uninsured person who has a communicable disease.

Can't wait to see socialized health care when the swine flu hits - emergency! everyone gets the test to see if they have it - to save the rich insureds!

This has definitely been a long recess. I just hope that enduring all of the wait and craziness will pay off in the end for us. Unfortunately, we still have another two weeks before our Congresscritters get back to work. Then and only then will we truly know what we are dealing with. I'm trying to remain hopeful that we will get a bill with a solid PO along with some other much needed reforms. I haven't been extremely encouraged about the "debate" so far but I'm trying not to panic or get upset until Congress gets back to work after Labor Day. I just hope that our Dems have the will to get something through by themselves if necessary because the Republicans don't seem to be willing to do anything for the average person in regards to HCR- all in the name of "breaking" Obama. :eyes:

I might have that saying a bit off but it is so true. It's crazy to me to see a nation as powerful and as large as the US and yet the people are so frightened and demoralized to think they have no power to make things better for themselves.

I use to respect the U.S. but after becoming part of DU and learning more about it, it is really not a fair place to live. There are some things that shouldnt be compromised down from and healthcare for all is one of them.

Ultimately America WILL wake up and make a true healthcare system: strong public option, or single payer but it will involve a lot of kicking and screaming and a lot more yauts and fat bonuses and brinks of nation bankruptcy before the country realizes that it needs to change and not jerk around abotu it.

8. I love the land of the United States and our Constitution, but there's always been...

...a lot of smoke and mirrors about how "great" America is ~ a lot of blowhard arrogance that is based on lies meant to cover up what's really going on. (Thiefs of Wall Street, Military Industrial Complex, etc.) I told my kids to take their American History classes with a giant grain of salt because of all the propaganda taught here.

We talk a good game about freedom, blah, blah, blah ~ but what this really means is anyone can make a buck here because everything is for sale. Nothing is sacred.

All that said, it is still possible to live here outside the general corrupted culture, to create a pleasant counter-culture way of life in the midst of everything else. But I'm not sure we'll see a strong national healthcare program anytime soon.

What gets to me is that Congress sells precious things in our names: the environment, lives in its wars of choice, its citizens health, our children's future, the freedom of gays, even justice itself.

We have quite a ways to go to live up to our Constitution, but I hope and pray we'll get there.
