Obama meets with N.C. volunteers
Eleven North Carolina residents were in the room with President Barack Obama this afternoon for his chat with volunteers from Organizing for America, a group organized by the Democratic National Committee to rally support for Obama’s health reform.

Among them was Charles Coble of Chapel Hill, who told Obama in the question-and-answer session that he wants health reform for his children and grandchildren, reports Barb Barrett.

“You’ve been outrageously good in trying to get a bipartisan bill through this Congress,” Coble said. “But America needs this to happen, and you know that. So, where are we going to go from here?”

Obama responded that he had committed to getting health reform with Republican ideas.

“But I have no control over their political strategy,” Obama said. “My commitment to the American people is: We’re going to get this done one way or another.”

1. I really liked hearing from Mr.Coble. He said, "You've been outrageously....."
<after big pause>..."good in trying to get a bipartisan bill through congress".

 For one split second, the look on everyone's face was PRICELESS (I'm sure they were wondering :wtf: is the guy getting ready to say!!)

Funny moment, even for the Pres.

I hope he's "just saying" that.

game all the way off the edge of the cliff, I don't care how many times Obama strongly suggests otherwise.

He can not control them but he can call out their unwillingness to help resolved our very serious healthcare problems.

edit: brain speaking faster than my fingers can type :S

4. Go DFO!
Durham For Obama has done some great work to whip up support for the public option. Not mentioned in the linked article was that DFO's own Michael Pearlmutter also asked President Obama a question about the public option. Michael mentioned proudly that he was from Durham for Obama, membership of 11,000, and let him know that we were working hard for him on healthcare reform.

5. My only problem with this is that I have not heard one single good Republican idea
Every single contribution or alternative I have heard from any Republican is designed to alter, dilute, weaken or put off real reform.

Co-ops instead of public option? Triggers to delay public option? No public option period? Which one of these ideas do we think should be included?

I did think of exactly one sensible thing a Republican offered and that was to make sure that Medicare rates in rural areas were what they should be. OK - we can let that one though.
