Glenn Beck on forced vacation from FauxNews - effort to stem hemorrhaging of advertisers.
Glenn Beck Off This Week: Vacation or Something More?

First on TVNewser: Tipsters inside Fox News tell us Glenn Beck's vacation this week from his Fox News show was not planned. We hear Beck was told to take this week off to let some of the heat surrounding him die down. That heat began July 28 on "Fox & Friends" when Beck said he thought Pres. Obama has "a deep-seated hatred for white people," adding, "This guy is, I believe, a racist."

In the days and weeks that followed an organization called ColorofChange.org mobilized an effort to get advertisers to pull their spots from Beck's show. Earlier this month, a Fox News spokesperson told TVNewser that the advertisers simply moved their spots from Beck to other programs, "so there has been no revenue lost."

But the list of advertisers grew to 20 and so did the resolve inside FNC that something more should be done.

A Fox News spokesperson denied our accounts and simply told us, "Glenn Beck will back on Monday." But several sources inside FNC confirm that this is a forced vacation.

Insiders note the ColorofChange movement is new territory for FNC. Other opinion hosts, including Sean Hannity, have not experienced an advertiser backlash.

11. It's interesting that he loses 20 advertisers and the worst thing that happens to him
is a "forced vacation."

I think by the time Imus lost that many on MSNBC, he was gone.

In short, Fixed Noise is damn committed to him to be sticking with him through all this.

26. Agreed - he is getting great ratings for 5PM hour
Do his fans work? Or are they all DVR'ing the nutcase?

Amazing but Faux is getting great ratings all around. But the good news though they don't get Faux type ratings is that MSNBC KO, Rachel(and the repeats of their shows), and Ed are also getting great numbers.

Rachel's ratings have really bounced back up this summer. They are close to or in most cases beating CNN.

I swear MSNBC would have better ratings if the damn cable companies like Comcast didn't hide them in the upper tier!

The comments there were all from Fox fans. I have to go shower now. :hurl:

But this is just proof that even they know they need to put him on a leash.

14. Here comes your 19th nervous breakdown...
The guys shattered and a week won't be enough time to pick up the pieces. Advertisers are leaving because HE is fucking insane and he will be just as fucking insane a week from today. When he comes back, lets all double our efforts to hammer on his advertisers.

No Mercy - No Beck!

15. Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch love their money more than their extremist reich wing wackjobs
They never had a problem with any of the crazy shit BecKKK said before. In fact, they hired him KNOWING he would say crazy shit. As he did on CNN. As he does on the radio.

But now they're losing money..... and that's different. And I'd never expect them to fire someone like BecKKK out of common decency, but they might well do so out of greed.

17. Wow. Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The more he cautioned his audience that we were targeting him to take him out, the louder and more boisterous he got. I wonder if this is part of the strategy too, because his winger-audience will assume we succeeded.

causing the demon in Beck to COME OUT!

Glenn's hatred would dissolve and he would gain a new level of understanding, compassion, wisdom, humility and empathy.

Maybe FOX "News" would even chip in and pay for it!?:)

25. Sorry but IMHO this story is false
I do think there has to be concerned at FAUX about the advertisers bailing but I don't buy they forced Beck on vacation.

1 - August is a month when most broadcasters take a vacation week or two.

2 - Evidence is coming out this was planned.
Update: Sources close to Beck have contacted TVNewser denying that this was a forced vacation. Beck's personal publicist Matthew Hiltzik forwarded us an email dated July 14th sent by Christopher Balfe, President & COO of Mercury Radio Arts and General Manager of Beck's radio show, addressed to Mercury Radio employees reading:

Glenn will be off of radio & TV the week of August 17th, returning to air August 24th.
Contrary to that, our tipsters tell us it was Beck himself who was telling Fox staffers last week that he was "forced to take the week off."

> Update: Hiltzik tells TVNewser: "It's sad and disappointing that despite denials from all parties involved -- Fox and Glenn -- and with objective proof that plans were made months ago, that someone continues to peddle this completely bogus story."

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/fnc/glenn_beck_off_this_week_vacation_or_something_more_124727.asp

Now looney tunes Beck might've been spouting himself last week that he was forced to go, but we all know how he loves to plant crap like this. And I expect when he gets back next week he will be crazier than ever with his dumbass 9-12 date coming up in 3 weeks.

Shouldn't only boycott advertisers of his tv and radio show but his web site too!
Edited on Fri Aug-21-09 06:18 AM by cascadiance
I've been told that Carbonite is a new advertiser for them and shows up on this page. I don't think these advertisers have been looked at up to this point from what I've heard from sources...

http://www.glennbeck.com/

Probably can refresh the page here a few times to see what other advertisers come up here, or traverse through his site...

I see others like:

Gold Line
Health Sciences Institute
GoToMyPC
