http://politics.theatlantic.com/2009/08/administration_official_sebelius_misspoke.php

And for "progressives" who believe what America's EXTREMELY sloppy M$M says you should at the least START paying attention!!

This is the SAME news media that HELPED get America into the Iraq war by under reporting anti war positions.

2. No, he has already said that any reform bill MUST include the Public Option but it's just a SMALL..
...part of the other 5 things they're trying to do with reform.

I can understand his position because what they HCI firms have been doing is near illegal.

4. All that agony yesterday for nothing
When you should have been celebrating Obama's town hall meeting on Saturday.

But it does raise another issue--the way the media has been covering the debate--concentrating on the "ruckus" as Obama himself described, and not enough education of the bill's actual components. Maybe they're the target we should be concentrating on.

5. I thought the SAME THING this morning!! They're either the sloppiest people in the world or they're
...paid off, there are FEW good reasons why America can't get straight forward news from them that is even weighted.

15. C'mon! Do you really think she would go out and say that without checking
with everyone from soup to nuts in the WH?

Every important statement uttered in the media by the administration is carefully parsed days ahead of time.

21. I doubt it was the plan to contradict each other.
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 12:02 PM by Qutzupalotl
To me it sounded like Sebelius was stressing other parts of the proposal, not diminishing the public option.

24. Have you consider that she didn't really mispoke, but that the WH is playing damage control?
People here think that whatever story the WH puts forth has to be honest. Has anyone consider that the "mispoke" excuse is a response to the strong backlash this has generated?

Judging by your comment it seems that you thought she mispoke. Have you made a statement to the effect that she mispoke?

11. Instead of blaming liberals, please understand that the President needs to do more
to control the message. If he cannot get control over what his cabinet says and does to the extent that they are on message, then I blame HIM for this one.

Your finger-pointing is misdirected.

The president needs to exercise more--not less--leadership on this issue!!!

17. Amen. Liberals are the ones paying for moveon's ads and constantly calling...
Congress members ~ the ones the president's right-hand man has been trying to shut up.

14. I'm sick of being jerked around by these cowardly amateurs in the WH.
I really think they are making it up as they go along - hour to hour.

"Let's say THIS and see what happens!"

Hours later, after studying all the neg reaction in the blogosphere, etc. they regroup and say "Whoa - we better pull back on THAT one! Let's say he/she MISSPOKE!!"

Amateur hour!!

18. That isn't amateur hour
It's called floating a trial balloon, and it's been used by Presidents from all parties for a long time, so I'm not totally convinced that it was a misstatement.

The point I would make is that not everything can or should be blamed on the media, and progressives should not be silent when faced with statements from the administration that they may oppose, not all of which are/will be caused by bad reporting.

25. How many viagra and othe big pharma ads run on the msm news
shows? Perhaps this has more to do with the msm corporate masters than the WH. I hope Obama says something about it today.
