When I'm pushed down, I get back up and fight harder than before!
I don't turn to those watching the fight...."see I told you they were going to beat the crap out of me"....

I don't sit there and cry!

So those who want to go ahead and fold....fine,
go ahead with your "I told you So's"
but please don't talk to me about the size of anyone's Balls,
cause you ain't even got none.

DU after reading AP and politico articles on the Public Option....

Outright embarassing....
Not only are many calling the Public Option Dead,
but they are hatin' on the President.

The Right Wingers reading this site must be feeling pretty good.....
cause they know that we ain't got the fortitude, the resolve,
nor any real will of our own.

4. They aren't the ones that we have been waiting for.....
So I tend to blame each and everyone of us who has done literally nothing since
forever.

Those who wanted a single payer and decided not to participate in organizing,
unless that is what they were organizing for.

Those who talk a lot of stuff, but don't bother to get out of the house and actually do something.

Those who expected one man to get it all done, while they sat on the sidelines and critiqued his every move.

Yep...I'm talking about way more than the Repug Loonies and the Blue Poodles....
I'm talking about anyone who has done a goddamn thing to pressure their congresspersons,
the media and those around them.

8. That's a good thing.
Appears that the media ran with Sebelius's words after they were interpreted to mean more than what she was saying: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x8592374

Administration Official: "Sebelius Misspoke."
http://politics.theatlantic.com/2009/08/administration_...

"An administration official said tonight that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius "misspoke" when she told CNN this morning that a government run health insurance option "is not an essential part" of reform. This official asked not to be identified in exchange for providing clarity about the intentions of the President. The official said that the White House did not intend to change its messaging and that Sebelius simply meant to echo the president, who has acknowledged that the public option is a tough sell in the Senate and is, at the same time, a must-pass for House Democrats, and is not, in the president's view, the most important element of the reform package.

30. Yes. Therefore, Sebelius gets a share of the blame.
It's not DU's fault that the Administration got off message.

And if no public option materializes in an eventual bill, DU won't have been wrong. It's a bit early for I-told-you-so.

10. It's about the ground game.
I don't how or why the folks who ran such a great campaign last year were caught flat-footed. It's as if the expected their adversaries to listen to reason, to negotiate in good faith for the good of our country...What were they thinking? Luckily there's time to recover.

Those who remember the 93-94 healthcare debacle had to know the insurance companies, their bought-and-paid-for public officials and all their cronies and hangers-on wouldn't fight fair or go down without a bloodbath.. By the way, it's true...you don't take a knife to a gunfight. Lesson learned.

Time to buckle up Dems. Time to fight to win. It's for the good of the country. Like I said it's about the ground game - a coordinated ground game - not this slip-shod, uncoordinated, half-funded, half-in-earnest, college-try we've been seeing.

Our democratic leaders need to snap to and carry the ball. Twist arms like you remember how. Get on every media forum you can. Be bold. Act like you believe.

It's time for phone calls, letters, e-mails and visits to Congresspeople. It's time for road-shows, testimonials and LTTEs. It's even time for us to call their RW radio talkers in big numbers.

I won't go on about how they fought FDR on Social Security or LBJ on Medicare. They made all the same poor arguments then - surprise. They didn't work then and shouldn't now. All they have left is scare tactics. They should be exposed as such.

Time to eliminate the short-term memory gap. Elections have consequences and Obama and the Dems won - and won big. Time to use the bully pulpit, the power of the office and all the advantages of large majorities in both houses.

We have the power and the numbers. They cause is a worthy one. This fight isn't over. It's time to buckle up and dig in.

Let's be careful out there.

17. I love your post.
I esp. agree with your observation about the admin expecting their adversaries to listen to reason. I still heard it in Obama's (ever more strident) imploring in Colorado on Saturday. I don't think that's going to work. I hope I'm wrong. What I think will work is just use our majorities in the House and Senate (are there enough votes for reform with a public option?), vote it in, show leadership, and, if necessary, stake the next election on it. Honestly. If the Dems really take this all the way, do you really think they'll be voted out next cycle? I think not. I think if they BACK OFF they are going to lose a whole hell of a lot of support. Show some cojones boys and girls. Sheesh. Frustrating.

Thanks for the really good post. Wish it could go out to all our elected officials...and be read.

11. The GOP roaches were all over Obama's blog today
you can tell we're closer to a victory on the public option because they've been posting more than usual their attempts at intimidation and bullying. We're in the thick of this thing now. We can't give up now, we gotta keep fighting. To quote the late King of Pop, "We're Almost There/We've come too far/to turn around/Gotta keep on reaching/for higher ground"

16. What do you mean, "fight harder than before!" ?
You were advocating and agreeing with Sebelius on taking the public option off the table earlier today. You were convinced that it was a WH strategy to hide the ball for a month.

Now, when the WH feels the fire of the netroot pushback, and walk back her statements, you join that bandwagon too?

Shameless.

But then, I would be surprised if you did....

Plus, I didn't agree with Sebelius taking the public option off the table;
please show me that post.

What I did say is that Dems can't take a hint,
cause strategy is not a word found in their dictionary!

This is what I said, and I stand by it

19. Thanks FrenchieCat
I've already e-mailed President Obama, I'll be e-mailing my congressmen again before the nights out and there is a protest to attend tomorrow at my local newspaper office. Btw, for the first time ever I find something to disagree with you over. That hole in the ground with folks jumpin in does not represent the DU I know. True, some of our fellow DUers act like lemmings.... but not most of us. When I think of DU I think of the educators and the fighters we have here, those such as yourself who rally the troops onward. Thank you for that.

24. I agree, but what blows my mind
is how no one seems to get Obama's strategy. They rail on about how he shouldn't be trying for bi-partisanship. Of course he should publicly be trying for it. It's a game, for god's sake. No, not a game as in, play -- but a chess game, yes.

Remember the Stimulus Bill? He tried the same thing then. And he got it passed. And what came out of that was the public opinion of the republicans was crap. Moderates were disgusted with the Republicans.

Gee, do you think the same game is being played out now?

Republicans are making themselves out to be asshats. Yes, their fear tactics worked on some people -- but not the majority. And there's still time to correct those lies for those who will listen. Those who won't listen would never have listened.

We need to stay strong, and see their lies as the desperate measures of a dying party who KNOW that if we get healthcare passed, it's over for them.

Do not give up. Do not believe the bs you read today, because tomorrow it will be corrected. The Republicans are still playing the "win the news cycle game" that they played successfully for many years. It did not work in 2008. The internet changed all of that. They're not playing a long term strategy.

CALL. WRITE. FIGHT. MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD. I am, I did, I will. YES WE FUCKING CAN DO THIS!!

sometimes i think all the anger helps him keep his promises.

no, i'll never write off Obama, but i think our side not giving them room to compromise the guts of the program away is a useful thing to him.

26. Lots who got high enough to think Single Payer had a legit or even a good or great shot
certainly expect ZERO push back or maneuvering on this nothing option. They are also on full alert for any statement that might be construed as we will see this nation surely burn before we relent so it can be spun as defeat, after all Chuck Todd has been saying.

We might lose but not from lack of trying but for lack of votes in our way more conservative economically than you admit legislature and shouted down by our corporation loving citizens, many (possibly even most) of which say they like what they have.

29. It's not the fighting... it's the constantly being stabbed in the back by your allies
We put him in office,
we GAVE him BOTH houses of congress
There is a SEVENTY PLUS PERCENTAGE CONSENSUS ON THIS

and he and his party still act against us.

the aren't' just not helping , they are actively stabbing us, drawing our blood, who are fighting for this.

who else, how else can we fight?
why?
why continue to defend people that only attack you?
These brain dead birthers, et al, we are fighting to help THEM as well... and they only attack us. Constantly. relentlessly.

you can't tell me that isn't horribly disheartening. 8 year.. 9 now... i'm out of ire, and fire, and drive.

this was my last hope...and he's turned around and kicked me WHILE im down.

I'm not getting up, i'm leaving. I refuse to fight anymore.
It doesn't work

They don't listen. If they did... HR 676 woudl have passed FIRST, and the Senate would have their version of it, sitting, waiting nearly, trimly, on the president's desk.

The President would have said Fuck Y'all, i'm reducing the Age for Medicare to 0.1 minutes after birth until you guys give me a REAL alternative.

He would have DEMANDED that the ceiling on Soc Sec tax be eliminated to pay for it.

Yes HR 676 passed, yay. God protect us from the idiots on the reisch and it gets made into law. But There are thing the President could have done, SHOULD have done to protect us...and he hasn't.

I'm tired of loosing because my allies, my PARTY is ignoring me, and the rest of us.
