Must Read/See Visit for US Energy Policy for all DUers
Arjun Makhijani did a great interview on Progressive Radio with Matthew Rothschild today and you can listen to it:
http://www.progressive.org/radioweekly

MP3: http://66.170.18.164/playlists/makhijani09.mp3

I would highly recommend listening to the interview and then going to this site to download the free book on energy policy.

As one who was not for nuclear power then for it (recently), I'm back to being against new nuclear power plants being built for economic reasons. Basically, it takes at least 8 years to build a plant, then 8 years to get the energy going at a reasonable clip and after billions of dollars of tax subsidies that even the energy sector investors are not willing to put money in for the most part. I'm not even talking about the nuclear waste issue.

Wind and Solar power are (as one might obviously suggest) are the ways to go (besides hydro and other energy technologies) and we must really make sure that the focus be fully on those technologies.

Give it a listen and get the free book. You will learn a lot from a very sturdy scientific analysis about future energy policy.

1. I'm curious why some here unrecommended this...
I'd be interested in why someone would defend building new nuclear power plants that have to be funded on the taxpayer's dime (and not the actual utility companies which don't fund it) and have at least a 16 year period before going online with a product that will already have cost many billions to construct.

Who was it and what is the reason?
