Facebook Update Would Ban Sponsored Profiles
Facebook Update Would Ban Sponsored Profiles

Facebook has added some updates to its Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, a document intended to make the site more democratic. Most of the changes are rather minor, but the social networking site does want to ban users from earning money from their personal profiles.

"You will not use your personal profile for your own commercial gain (such as selling your status update to an advertiser)," reads a new addition to the registration and account security section.

The move is likely intended to prevent the news stream from becoming a corporate-sponsored mess of spam rather than genuine collection of updates from friends.

What else is new? Facebook added a line to specify that your content and information is shared with the app developer when you add an app. The company also explained that information shared using the "everyone" privacy setting is open to the entire Internet and Facebook may not have control over how that data is used.

The new rules also ban unlawful multi-level marketing like pyramid schemes, as well as giveaways, sweepstakes, or contests that are conducted without the consent of Facebook.
