Please help me to understand this rationale

I was at the Doctors office this morning and of course Faux news was on the tv in the lobby & they were talking about "Reality Check Web site" and how it is being used by Democrats to turn in fellow Americans that are not "hip" to the Democratic health plan. Basically they were saying they want fellow Americans to spy on their neighbors as a witch hunt.

There were four people in a group discussing how despicable it is that This President would allow such behavior and bla bla bla. At this point I could take no more and interjected myself into threw conversation and asked them if they knew who Joseph McCarthy was & they all said yes he was a man that protected us from Communism (as my head was ready to explode from the sheer ignorance I was being surrounded by), I then said well what about the phone wire taps that the Bush Administration was doing on Americans without even obtaining a search warrant? Two of them responded "oh that was just left wing Propaganda, our President would never do that to his citizens).

At this point I was called in for my appointment, and not a moment to soon I was just about ready to lose it. :banghead:
