I didn't know that. Why aren't the dems pushing back on that saying "the 'killing old people' provision was introduced by Johnny Isakson (R-Ga) talk to him about it"?

For the record, what's being proposed in Washington is not government-run health care. And for the record, the health care reform as a "secret plot to kill old people" conspiracy theory is based on the fact that health legislation being debated now would cover living wills. So, if you wanted a living will, the process of getting one would be covered. That provision was introduced into the health care debate by Republicans, including Senator Johnny Isakson of Georgia.

3. Great idea, and refer to it as "The Isakson Amendment".
Let that coward come out and face his own mob!

4. Yep.. and our side lets Palin and that crew get away with it..because bashing Obama, Pelosi, Clinton
Dean, Rahm.. etc. gets us so much further?? I sometimes wonder why we need enemies when our friends are so willing to toss the party under the bus

Go figure

9. Our side has let them get away with it largely because we were unaware.
I didn't know it until Rachel Maddow mentioned it last night. Now the knowlege is spreading. It will be turned back on them.

16. Yep. And it never ceases, never, ever.
There's some consolation in knowing that I'm not the only one who sees this.

8. I don't think they're capable of thinking that far ahead.
They've clearly been winging it since at least 2006.

10. I never underestimate the ability of Republicans
to be completely shameless sleezebags. It's something they've mastered and an ability they won't lose any time soon.

14. He may have put it into the Senate HELP bill
And then the House copied it, but I'm just speculating here.

20. From the National Hospice and Palliative Care Org web site:
In the HELP Committee Proposal, “Affordable Health Care Choices Act”:

1. Allows for utilization of CLASS Independent Benefit Plan for advance care planning (Agreed to – Isakson Amdt)

Within the establishment for a national voluntary insurance program for purchasing Community Living Assistance Services and Support (CLASS) available to individuals with functional limitations, program funds can be used for advance care planning.

(link above)

So it sounds like the Senate adopted an amendment which basically adopts the House version? Or at least the ACP portion of it?

17. I heard one Dem Rep saying that on Tweety's show last week.
Edited on Sat Aug-08-09 04:52 PM by Phx_Dem
But Tweety is too busy stoking the flames to be concerned about using his (cough) "news" show to inform the ignorant masses about the facts.

They had the talking points printed up before this was even proposed. Repubs are sneaky. Remember Watergate.

Anyone got an actual news source with this? I'm trying to discuss this issue at another forum and I'm sure I will be asked for a link.
