Michigan is looking like a lock for Kerry
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 08:58 AM by WI_DEM
Americans Coming Together (ACT) is closing all ten of its offices in Michigan and reassigning to other battleground states its 100 staffers. The reason, it appears Michigan and its 18 electoral votes are looking like a "lock" for John Kerry who has, consistently held a 4-6 point lead in the state over Bush.

ACT now feels it can do more for Kerry in other must win states.

4. I'm sorry to hear that. I think there will be a lot of disenfranchisement
again in Detroit. There are a lot of undecideds among those I talk to. I really think they should keep some open. These are the decisions that I just don't "get". I live here and it's definitely NOT a lock. :hi:

6. Agreed...
Far too many ShrubCo signs in my neighborhood for me to feel comfortable about it. Of course, since all the Kerry signs are being swiped in the middle of the night, ya' never know. (Mine was stolen two nights in a row.)

8. I know. This decision is making me say, "Huh?" We are not allowed
to have lawn signs here until 4 weeks before the election. But, I've got one in my window. And a bumper sticker. Each day I keep a running tally of Kerry v. Bush stickers while out driving. :hi:

20. Same here. I'm nervous.
I had to fight to get bumper stickers in Oakland County, and I'm worried about yard signs. People are "convinced" but I keep meeting "undecideds" and supporters of the Evil One....

10. Why replicate effort?
I support the ACT decision, because the real point behind it is that the unions are making what they are doing redundant. There's no point in covering ground that someone else has got covered. It's a waste of resources.

I am a Field Coordinator in Oakland county, and trust me, we are doing very well in Michjgan.

11. From Michigan. Sorry, I can't trust you.
I'm canvassing in Michigan. And it is far from a lock. I see no redundancy. Assumption is the biggest part of the problem. :hi:

17. I never said it was a lock
I said that we were doing well. I am basing that assessment on the phone banking and door to door canvassing that I am doing every day in a very key area. The responses we are getting are quite encouraging. Do we need to keep working hard? Of course we do. But we need to work smart, as well. Having different organizations repeatedly working the same ground is not efficient.

I realize that's not practical, but nevertheless...

24. cute

It's not just Michigan- all the polling numbers are saying that Bush's efforts are getting him nowhere in Minnesota or in Pennsylvania either.

In a lot of states Bush's numbers are almost exactly where they should be according to trend since 2000. All those Undecided voters at the moment are people who aren't going to vote for Bush- he made his last fresh sales pitch at his Convention.

(who also got arrested while filming a documentary at the RNC convention inside MSG) was working in Michigan, but just moved down to Florida.

I'm REALLY glad- it's where we should be focusing all our strength. Florida and Pennsylvania. And Ohio, too, of course, if it isn't too far out.

Nothing is "locked" here. We're still talking to people.
