he is still a US Citizen.

My friend just sent me the link to the constitution that pretty much guarenteed Obama US Natural Citizenship because of his mother.

So if that's the case - who cares where the birth certificate is from?

1. That's what I've been saying all along. At least that's how I understand it.
Edited on Mon Aug-03-09 03:24 PM by Guy Whitey Corngood
Some of my friends were born in Spain and other places. It didn't make a difference because of the parent's US citizenship.

2. It's not about a goddamn birth certificate. It never was.
These people don't care about facts because this reaction is purely based on emotion. They cannot grasp the fact that THEIR COUNTRY has become a nation that could conceivably elect a black dude named Barack Hussein Obama President.

This is their rebellion. They can't say "That N*GGER CAIN'T BE PREZNIT! HE'S A N*GGER!" even though that's what they feel, because they're at least smart enough to make a passing attempt at concealing their racism. Instead, they go "Well, that Obummer's not REEEEEALLLLY an American...".

4. If you read the Constitution, it says...
(paraphrasing) The President must be born in the US AS OF THE WRITING OF THE CONSTITUTION. So, literally, NO President since Adams was legit!!!

10. You're close.
After moderate exercise, the joint swells ever so slight and impinges on the nerve. "Buzz Clik" is the sound my eyes make when they roll back in my head when that happens. A little Advil, and all is well.

19. no, that is NOT what the constitution says
the prez must be a "natural born" citizen (which is subject to interpretation and has never been interpreted about an actual president) or be a citizen at the time of the adoption of the constitution.

8. no, there is a question
Section 301 (if I remember correctly) states that between some date in the 1950's to 1986 the mother (or father) had to have lived in the US 10 years total, five of them after the parent's 14th birthday. Ann Durham was not 19 when he was born.

Edited on Mon Aug-03-09 04:26 PM by AspenRose
Which he was not.

United States Code, Title 8, Section 1401 (d)

The following shall be nationals and citizens of the United States at birth:

(d) a person born outside of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents one of whom is a citizen of the United States who has been physically present in the United States or one of its outlying possessions for a continuous period of one year prior to the birth of such person, and the other of whom is a national, but not a citizen of the United States

17. yes, I understood the question to be "if he was born outside of the US"
Birth Abroad to One Citizen and One Alien Parent in Wedlock: A child born abroad to one U.S. citizen parent and one alien parent acquires U.S. citizenship at birth under Section 301(g) INA provided the citizen parent was physically present in the U.S. for the time period required by the law applicable at the time of the child's birth. (For birth on or after November 14, 1986, a period of five years physical presence, two after the age of fourteen is required. For birth between December 24, 1952 and November 13, 1986, a period of ten years, five after the age of fourteen are required for physical presence in the U.S. to transmit U.S. citizenship to the child.

And it appears that a natural born citizen has to be born on American soil.

14. Oops, the name is Dunham, not Durham....
Dunham is my maiden name so I notice silly things like that.

The question is not U.S. Citizenship, the question is 'natural-born', which apparently lacks a clear definition.

Of course this isn't the real issue for these jerks, anyway, but perhaps we should clearly define 'natural born'.

It's all moot in Obama's case, of course.

23. A natural born citizen means exactly what the name says
A person who is an American citizen at BIRTH, either because they were born on American soil or to American parents.

My daughter, born in Australia, is a natural born American citizen because her mother is a natural born American citizen.

27. Natural Born means just that he/she can't be another country's citizen and then decide to become a
citizen.

Natural Born means that if a child is the child of at least ONE of the parents is a citizen, then that child is AUTOMATICALLY a citizen - no matter WHERE the child is "dropped"!

It just means that a child cannot be of another citizenship at birth, then a US Citizen LATER. Period.

28. My brother was born in Germany while my Dad was stationed there...from what we
understand, as he had to be naturalized (even though both parents were US citizens) he's ineligible for the presidency.

Not that he has shown any desire for the job, mind you...
