Obama's SNIPE HUNT
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 07:50 PM by Beetwasher
I Think History Will Look Back To This Moment In The Debate On H/C reform and realize that this is where O outmaneuvered the rightwing. This is the key moment and he's neutralizing a large segment of his opposition by sending them off on a snipe hunt.

The media feeding frenzy is awesome. Whoops! There goes their massive anti h/c reform propaganda campaign while they run off after this shiny morsel. Meanwhile, Obama's doing real work behind the scenes to get h/c reform accomplished but w/out the idiot media drowning everything in lies and misinformation and w/ the wingnut base all misdirected from the battle and in a frothing rage because of this shiny piece of fools gold.

And Obama is feeding it. He's not backing down. I think he chose his words VERY carefully and knew EXACTLY what he was doing. After all, nothing is more predictable than an idiot Republican. His latest comments not backing down has me MORE convinced. He doesn't WANT this to cool down. He's purposely stoking the fires now and egging them on. He's too smart not to know that. This is a CLASSIC distraction technique.

2. I don't think this moment was a mark of genius
I love Barack Obama, but not every move he makes is a 'chess move' or a mark of genius.

He made a mistake and it will be quickly forgotten.

Why isn't he backing down? He could have easily said something today much more conciliatory and yet, he's stoking the fires. Not backing down a bit.

4. I think it's because he's mainly right
It's just unfortunate he chose the word 'stupidly'. So simpletons will go around saying that he's calling cops stupid, rather than he's saying that these cops 'made a mistake'.

For the record, the cops have to have a tougher shell. I don't think they should be allowed to lock people up or rough them up because their feelings get hurt. I look at how Gates was dressed and how old he is, and he's the last person I would think would be breaking into a home, especially after he produced ID. This cop should have just walked away.

5. Well, Of Course, IMO, Obama Is Totally Correct

The whole incident stinks. But I really think he's too smart not to know exactly what the reaction would be to his comments during this EXTREMELY politically volatile moment. I mean WHY pick this fight now? Do you really think he's that mercurial? Is he really that undisciplined that he's not aware of or doesn't care about the fallout from what he says, as long as he's right? IMO, he knows exactly what he was doing. I'm not saying the whole thing was planned, but I certainly wouldn't put it past him and his advisors to exploit an opportunity to take some of your opponents out of the game and misdirect their energy and focus from the task at hand to something as quixotic as this. As a student of behavior, he MUST know that this will send certain elements into single minded conniptions.
