2. I'm not sure why there's anyone left in America who thinks Demented and his ilk
actually serve the public. Never see rich white GOPers get so passionate over anything as they do when they're trying to stop ordinary people from receiving help or money from the government--unless it's Georgie Bush in office, distributing away our budget surplus to the upper middle class in little "refund" checks as soon as he takes office. THAT'S ok, as long as we're wasting our money on the right people.

7. those "refund" checks were a democratic idea
that was the little iota of good democrats could do to get some more broad-based distribution of the treasury raid for the very rich. so most income tax payers got a check for up to $300 per person while rich people got their taxes lowered by tens of thousands of dollars or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

thanks to the democrats, we got $300 checks instead of having to wait until the next april to get it as a refund. yippee.

to be clear, the real treasury looting was the huge tax cuts to the rich, who returned the favor by jacking up fees, reducing choice in the marketplace, sending our jobs overseas, and creating the "great recession".

8. Funny, my husband and I got nothing, we were lower middle class at the time.
No check for us. People who made more than us got checks.

9. yeah, it definitely excluded some people, mostly the people who needed it the most
and who would have spent it the most readily.

iirc, you needed to have owed more than the $300 in federal income taxes the previous year, plus i think a few other restrictions. if you didn't get the check, you still eventually got the refund assuming you otherwise would have owed $300 that april.

much ado about the silliest pissing away of hard-earned savings ever. ah, the spectable of greenie, as chairman of the federal reserve, testifying that the sky would fall if we ever completely paid off the ENTIRE national debt, as if we were even remotely close to that.

at this rate, we'll never even get back to those "modest" debt levels, nevermind completely paying it off.

10. Good article. No doubt that the Republicans care only about
politics and not the people they represent. I hope it comes back and bites them in the ass.
