1. Did you just see Laurence O'Donnell say that Obama campaigning for healthcare

is the reason why it's popularity is tanking?

2. That's not really what he said.

What he did say was that when Hillary campaigned for health care reform in the '90s it got more unpopular and this seems to be following a similar trajectory. He didn't say the reason it was becoming less popular (and I don't even know whether that's true) is that Obama is pushing for it. He also didn't say it was "tanking."

3. They're parsing now ...

... but not deep enough.

One of his lower approval numbers is on how he's managing health care reform, and since this is both the current news item and the issue the Republicans have declared all out war on, this is where they will focus. But, they'll keep it simple.

Most people, by a slim majority, don't approve of the way he's handling it.

But what does that mean?

Well, some people don't approve because they think it's socialism.

Others don't approve because they think it's a sellout to the insurance industry.

Needless to say, these two groups do not approve for entirely different reasons.

Overall, his approval is pretty much where it was a month ago, which is about where it was a month before that. He's far from "tanking."

We have, however, hit the wall of reality. Getting anything real done is going to piss a lot off a lot of powerful people who can bang the drum of "failure" no matter how much he succeeds.
