Kerry Iraq speech galvanises press
BBC

There has been a strong and very mixed reaction in the US press to Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry's speech on the war in Iraq.

The fallout from US TV network CBS' admission of doubt over documents it used in a report about President George Bush's military service is also closely examined.

In his speech given on Monday, Democratic hopeful John Kerry "seems to have found his voice" on Iraq, which "ought to be the central issue of this year's election", the liberal New York Times says.

The paper says Mr Kerry's critique of Mr Bush's record in Iraq was "well-grounded, intellectually straightforward and powerful".

"Perhaps the presidential campaign is finally under way," it suggests.

USA Today agrees that Mr Kerry's criticisms are "an accurate indictment" of Mr Bush's decision to go to war "under mistaken reasons".

SAY HELLO TO 'THE CLOSER.'

41. This one was BETTER than the convention speech
The convention speech was a little too focused on what he did as a Swift Boat skipper, IMHO. Most Americans don't really give a damn about things that a candidate did 35 years ago. If they did, Dubya would never have been elected in the first place.

Monday's speech is the one that so many anti-war Democrats knew Kerry had in him, but have been waiting to hear. It calmed a lot of fears, and gave many of them a reason to vote (and work) FOR Kerry, instead of just against Bush.

Don't be suprised if you see a groundswell of new, re-energized support for Kerry from the strongly anti-war groups who have (so far) been only giving tepid support. That may be just enough to make a real difference-- and negate any "Nader effect".

And he did great on Letterman!

and has mostly been covering Smirk's ass from day one.

Liberal and NYT do not fit in the same sentence.

Weird how people say that.

I'm not gay or anything, but I'll be damned if John Kerry isn't a handsome guy. I've seen him up close (not close to shake hands, darn it), but in the fourth row of his speech at Union Terminal in Cincinnati. I don't get how people keep making cracks about his looks.

24. The Press Is Just So Stupid
Like we can not see that this is a tall fit and extremely attractive guy. He has the HOT FACTOR the press is reluctant to mention. Wolf and Aaron wish they looked liked Kerry. BTW he skis and plays hockey and looks good doing both. The bitch jealousy factor is not confined to women.

The vapid press hates him because he is darling and yummy to look at. BTW women are NOT missing his good looks. Not by a long shot. Every woman I talk to about Kerry mentions his looks. They like what they see. They think he is yummy and no stupid press by Wolf, Faux, or MSNBC is going to quash those hormones!

36. You are so not kidding. Kerry is very attractive.
And I saw Edwards about 4 rows back at the rally in Tucson. Absolute dreamboat! Way handsomer in person. The bluest eyes and cutest smile I've ever seen. I already emphatically support their politics, so what a bonus that they're also easy on the eyes. Unlike 2 certain reptilian smirking creeps that I've been subjected to for nearly 4 years now.

11. the liberal New York Times ... heh ...
i just love that ...

is this the same NY Times that brought us all that very well documented research on Saddam's weapons of mass destruction ???

now they have the hypocritical audacity to jump all over Rather for his rather shoddy reporting ... Rather screwed up but the Times is hardly in a position to criticize him ...

what Rather did resulted in no harm ... what the NY Times did was help bush start a war that has killed tens of thousands of innocent people ... that's quite a bunch of liberals they have over there ...

as to the main point, it really looks like Rumplestilsken has indeed finally awakened ... oooh, this is going to be way more fun to watch now ...

btw, as an aside, Kerry needs to take an over-the-counter product called Cold-eeze ... it's a sucking candy kind of thing ... trust me on this ... one or two of these things and his cold will be gone in a day ...

30. Kerry said he loves these last weeks. He's fine-tuned his final course
of action against bush.

This reminds me of the pictures of Kerry wind or kite surfing: The man can master whatever he is served.

Kerry is steering this campaign to the destination of his choice.

With strength, skill and resilience, anticipating and adjusting to the buffeting waves and winds, John Kerry will prove to be our champion - and I can hardly wait!!!

37. The tide is turning
What a difference a day makes!

Kerry is all over the news...he is on the attack, & Bush is on the defensive.

He even upstaged Shrubs appearance at the UN, by having a press conference.

I do think this is a bit more than being a strong closer. The focus of his campaign has changed. He is going after Bush on Iraq & national security.

And he was terrific on Letterman last night!

43. Now what you got Bush?
Bush expends all ammo prior to Labor day.

What's he going to do now? Come up with some new "plan" in the last six weeks to explain four years of inaction or fuckups?

Dont. Think. So.

Fact is that Kerry has waited until everyone's paying attention and the repubs have basically set their message and is now beating that message to DEATH every single day of the week, several times in each news cycle.

It's on, shrub.

Do Never Test Kerry, word is bond.
