For DU fashionistas--Lots of photos of Michelle (Mrs.O)
and what she's wearing.

http://mrs-o.org/

It is so refreshing to see our First Lady well dressed--and not always in designer duds, either.
There are also a number of pix with the kids.

Take a look at all the pictures available that the press could have published from the trip.
What did they choose? Gee, could it be possible that the press had an agenda? :sarcasm:

11. Actually I did!
I really love how the First Lady dresses. She can be classic and traditional and also knows how to get a little funky!

And yes, I admit it -- I totally indulge in looking at how Mrs. O dresses. Some people like TMZ, People, US whatever -- not me

I like Michelle. THAT is my guilty pleasure. ;)

is a better site to keep up with Mrs Obama and the kids. Gina posts substance and - she isn't funded by the fashion industry either.

8. Thanks for the link.
The site I posted provides info on who and what she's wearing. Some of us love knowing that she
mixes specific pieces from J.Crew or Talbots or other ordinary places--and which ones they are-- into her wardrobe.

20. I understand
as long as people understand the reason the "blogger" gets all that info is because she's a fashion industry insider. It's a commercial endeavor, not a labor of love.

I am fully aware that this is fashion we are talking about. Fashion is, after all, a commercial endeavor. And, if I may go so far ---

Some people go into the fashion industry to earn money for something that started as a simple labor of love. I do not begrudge people for wanting to earn money for something they are passionate about.

Hell, I wish more people went into a career they loved and were passionate about to earn money. We would have a much happier world.

4. And from the NY Times earlier in the year an article about Michelle's hoped for effect
on the American fashion industry.

TO the laundry list of global woes the Obama administration is expected to set right, starting Jan. 20, one can probably add the quagmire of American fashion. True, it will have to wait in line behind the hemorrhaging economy and the situations in Gaza, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and Pakistan. True, too, it will scarcely be a top-of-mind concern for the president himself.

<snip>

Insignificant as this may seem in the larger scheme of things, it is less so when one considers the distressing state in which American fashion has found itself lately, with both chain and department stores shutting their doors, consumers confidence at its lowest level in decades and manufacturers struggling to remain afloat in what, as May Chen, the international vice president of the union group Unite Here, explained, “has always been a very credit-sensitive industry.”

<snip>

American fashion, said Steven Kolb, the executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, like the American automobile and banking industries, is “at a crossroads” in dire need of some kind of boost. Reviving a faltering homegrown industry may seem like a lot to expect of one woman, however highly placed. Yet, whether or not she likes it — or has any particular interest in fashion at all — the first lady has traditionally been expected to use her position to help promote American goods.

<snip>

“She could potentially do what Jackie Kennedy did, bring about a new awareness and a fresh outlook, just by not being so intentionally ‘first lady,’ by mixing designer things with off the rack,” Ms. Sui said. “She can give a big boost to the American fashion industry — and we need all the help we can get.”

6. Everything great except that horror she wore to meet the Pope.
The veil, not the dress, actually. That veil belongs in a convent, not on our First Lady IMO. It isn't even that flattering. I can't understand why she didn't wear something smaller...

10. Once upon a time Catholic women had to cover their heads - wear
hats - when in the church. I assume she was savvy enough to pick up on that tradition.

14. I wish someone could buck the protocol on veil wearing at Papal visits
I'm not sure that Hillary veiled. Laura did.

It's a stupid archaic custom not followed by the vast majority of Catholic women.

I believe there are different protocols: when women meet the Pope there, they must cover their heads, but in the WH the same rule doesn't apply.

this just annoys the heck out of me. I have not worn anything on my head in a Catholic Church since I was about 8 years old. I don't see why meeting the Pope should be anything different.

35. it is a tradition, they would have called her a hick if she hadn't worn a veil
but that said, she looked better than a lot of women but still I agree it should not be incumbent on non-catholics to follow this 'rule'.

42. I think that fashion is an art. It's extremely visual.
I like seeing good taste in men's clothing, but good taste in men's clothing isn't generally as visually interesting as in women's.

I used to feel a little guilty, too. Now though, I only comment when I can complement, or at least offer only gentle constructive criticism after a complement.

And the dress in question I complement without the least bit of criticism!

sense that she enjoys dressing well, doesn't have elitist taste, loves color, loves casual looks
and knows that presenting herself well creates a great impression. The other thing I love about her style
is that as a woman of substance she is so secure in herself that she isn't afraid
that paying attention to her clothes will detract from the substance of who she is.

She really gives off a tremendous sense of self-confidence.

but I wanted to post a picture of the family on the way to meet the Pope. Sasha looks darling in her Mary Jane's and Malia looks all grown up in her lovely ensemble. Grandma Marian went also but she is never pictured as I am sure she prefers. I hadn't seen a picture of the girls in their black outfits so wanted to post.
