Do the Conserva-Dems face much constituent opposition to their corporate toadying?
Edited on Thu Jul-09-09 10:45 AM by brentspeak
MoveOn and some other national liberal groups have run ads criticizing the Conserva-Dems, but what about organized criticism from the Conserva-Dems' own state constituents? For example, do the majority of Indiana residents really not mind Evan Bayh's corporate whoring on behalf of interests that make it harder and harder to put food on the table? Do Nebraskan residents really not mind that Ben Nelson wants to make life more unaffordable for them? (I guess the same question could also apply anywhere that Republicans are elected).

2. If you check out their states, they are concerned only with Small
Business Constituents, and upper middle class.. These are the
people who vote.

As job losses continue and bite deeper into the upper middle
class, it will be interesting to watch.

3. As an Indiana resident and *constituent* of Evan Bayh
I can say emphatically that I'm pi***d off at Bayh's corporate toadying but, more specifically, his "up yours" attitude he has had towards President Obama by forming a coalition of "Blue Dogs" in the Senate that seems more or less based on opposition to some(?) of President Obama's agenda. The crazy thing is that I don't even have as much loathing for Senator Richard Lugar as I do for Bayh- and Lugar's a Republican (one of the very few sane ones left)!!! Organized opposition? Dunno. If there is, I sure haven't seen or heard about it. I could understand why he had to be a little more conservative as Indiana Governor but I haven't been crazy about him at all since he went to the US Senate. Indiana is so right-wing (in rural and suburban areas anyway) that some people whom write into the newspaper actually complain that he is a "liberal"!!!! Talk about insanity!!

4. Not really, no. Ben Nelson regularly pulls 70%+ in approval polls.
Evan Bayh hangs around 60%. And both of their disapproval ratings are almost entirely comprised of people complaining that they aren't conservative enough for their tastes.
