Corporate media at it again. Saying Obama broke tax pledge
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31806096/ns/politics-white_house/

This is why I tell you never ever ever trust GE aka NBC/CNBC/MSNBC. Don't trust Disney/AOL/Fuckall.

Don't trust CNN or Newsweek or any of the corporate megaliths primarily in the business to skim your money out of your pockets.

Now, it should be PRETTY DAMN OBVIOUS that what Obama was talking about was income or payroll taxes as well as the taxes that are affected by an increase in wealth such as capital gains or dividend tax. But now because Obama and the Democrats are placing a tax on cigarettes to help pay for smoking cessation, he's broken his "NO new taxes for those making under $250,000?"

FUCK YOU, CORPORATE AMERICA!

1. The question really is how can these fucked up people sleep at night?
or look at their children in their eyes?

All the while lying and making shit up, or distorting and twisting facts to their own shape.

Does money really do all of that to someone who supposedly got into a career because of their love of reporting objective facts?

They are some scary mother-f*ckers...I tell you!

45. Tax is money out of pocket, what the hell difference does it make?
Parsing words to cover one's ass in a campaign pledge is the real dishonesty.

46. you're a very, very poor citizen if that's what you believe.
raising cigarette taxes or national park usage fees (that's a tax too, dude) or if they in the future decide to raise national gas tax to fund green transportation research.....have nothing to do with his pledge on not raising income/payroll/investment taxes.

Got it? You're the dishonest one. You're doing if for free. At least MSNBC gets paid for their shilling and deceit.

2. Someone should remind these reporters of their role
in that trillion dollar Iraq war we are just now slowly getting out of.

Maybe if we hadn't spent a trillion dollars there, the economy wouldn't have tanked as badly.

Assholes!

we're going to keep track of tax-related things, let's keep track of them all.

Missouri July 30th, 2008- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJVMWjTQh_Y 1:04- "...No taxes! Your taxes will not go up!.."

"I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000
a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your
payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes"

5. Folks who don't smoke taxes didn't go up......
I smoke, and I don't give a shit. Hell, I'd like a pack of cigarettes to cost $100,
perhaps then I would stop killing myself each and every day.

Anyways, you should post that at FR.
I'm sure they'd love it a lot!

10. It's you not doing the math.
If 22% of the population smokes......say at least one pack of cigarettes per day.....
and the increase on a pack of cigarettes is approx 62 cents, that means that they will pay
about $4.34 more per week, or $8.68 per every two weeks, which is less than their tax cut that they got on their FIT taxes.

In otherwords, their taxes have not been raised; they have been lowered.

or other direct and indirect taxes such as these being in the domain of what Obama and Biden were talking about. It should be FUCKING BLATANTLY obvious they were talking about taxing wealth and income. THOSE were the taxes they promised wouldn't go up for those making $250,000 or less.

But even still, the point is that even their "taxes" didn't go up.....
since I guess we can co-mingle taxes since he sees them all as the "same".

Point is that Poster is wrong and he NOW knows it.....
but of course, he was only thinking in "his way" in order to be right.
Problem is he ain't the only one who posts at DU!

Edited on Thu Jul-09-09 04:20 AM by FrenchieCat
and he may qualify for some single earned income credit, or at the very least some health care in the emergency room....which we all pay for through our health care insurance....
and the way he has to look at it is that he may need to think of quitting smoking....
cause sounds like he can't really afford it.
Perhaps if he is that bad off, he could volunteer some of his spare time helping others.....
Who knows what opportunities might come back his way due to his goodwill! http://www.serve.gov/

Just sayin'.

6. go ahead and lie to yourself. you know that line of argument is full of shit.
Edited on Thu Jul-09-09 02:57 AM by PretzelWarrior
let's just take an obvious example. If a person smoked 10 more cartons of cigarettes this year above last year do the the economic crisis stressing them out, their taxes would have gone up. despite the fact that the cigarette tax was unchanged. So they would have been made a liar just due to someone's habits changing.

You are quoting these people out of context because it fits your agenda. I've watched your posts. You know you're lying to us. We know you're lying to us. Enough said. If you want to keep lying to us, go ahead. But know that we are aware of what you're doing.

At least those manicured TEEVEE people get paid to lie. You just do it out of boredom and bitterness or something.

44. The only legitimate complaint could have been made with raising or removing cap on payroll taxes...
... WITHOUT lowering the rate so that those who are making $250k or less are still paying equal or less than payroll taxes and with removing the cap, those above it pay more.

That way, (current percentage of current cap @$100k) = (lower newer percentage of $250k)

Then voila, a tax cut for everyone making less than $250k and raising the taxes for everyone above it.

You could tell that Stephanopolous and Gibson were trying to trap Obama into "admitting" a tax increase in that one debate when they asked what he would do with payroll taxes. If Obama had answered in this way, it would have still kept his pledge.

Donut holes are messy and not fair either to those making just over $100k versus those making $250k...
