The Bush Sucker Punch, Then & Now ...

THEN:

Incidentally, while rugby is a contact sport, every player knows that tackling above the shoulders is a foul. So is leaving your feet during a tackle. Either of these is serious enough that the other team is immediately awarded a penalty kick, often directly resulting in points for the other team. So even without throwing a punch, Bush is already well outside fair play.

Bush Sucker Punch

AND NOW:

Let’s think of politics as like the game of football. We fans tend to identify with a particular team, and we take great pleasure and pride when our team is doing well. But when our team is struggling, we understand that this is all part of the game, it is the ebb and flow of sport, and we hope that next season will be better. We don’t celebrate our rivals’ victories as we would our own, but we understand that this is their time, and they are succeeding because they are playing the game with great skill and determination. We honor their successes, as long as they honor the game. And we know that our time will come. And we can still take pride in the game. ... Our President is not playing the game fairly.

Bush Doesn`t Play Fair

1. Likely the caption is fake
The caption above appears in the font Palatino. Though Palatino was created by Hermann Zapf in 1950 it was very uncommon in smaller printing runs until it was included in the Mac operating system 30 years after GWB graduated from school. The original caption:

3. Oh, this, and the picture of Shrub cleaning his glasses. . .
on Letterman Producer Maria Pope's sweater. Between these two pix there's nothing more you need to understand this schmuck's character.

4. How to Beat Karl Rove on Election Day
September 21, 2004
By Bernard Weiner, The Crisis Papers

"The Rove-led forces have proved, time and time again - and, with gross obviousness recently - that they are expert at pulling off electoral scams and criminal slimes, and there is every reason to believe that if they think they can get away with it, they'll do whatever it takes to keep themselves in power for at least another four years.

We needn't go into detail about some of the more outrageous dirty tricks being pulled these days. You've read the news and seen through the spin. Their approach often rests on the Big Lie technique; it doesn't matter if most people see through the constant repetition of the lies, and recognize them as little more than political smoke and mirrors. The Rove-ites don't care. Because enough potential voters will be fooled into believing the unbelievable to perhaps throw the victory to Bush in tight races - or, if not that, those on the fence who are possible voters for Kerry might get cynical enough about the dirt and mud being thrown around to simply abstain."

5. How many others feel the same way but don't say it?
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 08:55 AM by napkinz

"Democrats now have an unlikely ally in their quest to prove that Bush has a history of these kinds of dirty tricks: Bob Dole. ... Of McCain's charge to President Bush during a 2000 debate—'You should be ashamed'—Dole told Wolf Blitzer, 'He was right.' Dole made the remark off-air, while CNN broadcast a portion of McCain's 2000 debate remarks."

6. Old axiom: Sports don't build character, they reveal it. . .
and that picture said it all.
