locally. The appearance was good -- so check it out if it's still to be shown in your area. Kerry is the first guest.

...watching Regis and Kelly Lee is just a bit too much, even of us hardened patriots.

24. Kelly - oi
Could she be more vapid and annoying if she tried? Ow.

Kerry was very upbeat, and you could see him swiftly but subtly changing tack to get the conversation back on point when Kelly wanted to chatter, or to save a segment of his comments when the audience reaction was quiet. There was one moment when he was discussing Iraq and the crowd was veeerry quiet. He looked out at them and immediately added, in a very sincere way, how much the troops are appreciated (paraphrasing) and you could almost feel the relief from the audience as they started to applaud.

As silly as the show is, the audience got serious when he did. They were hanging on his words and paying very close attention once he steered away from the chatter and talked more about his platform. He managed to cover a fair amount while still keeping it light. I think he did very well.

17. Yeah but millions of people watch this show for ..

..some reason. Kerry is doing an all-out media blitz. He is going to win this election - unless the Republicans find another way to cheat.

6. Regis is asking him to talk about his years as a PROSECTOR!
We NEVER hear about that!

HE's talking about how he helped found a rape counseling center during those years.

Kerry just said of his wife, "Well, she speaks her mind. I love it, because she tells the TRUTH."

11. targeting women
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 08:34 AM by welshTerrier2
the focus of the discussion has been about kids, rape and Kerry's wife ... TV daytime audiences are mostly women ... that's who Kerry is talking to and Regis has been very accommodating ...

this has been a very high energy appearance ... perfect so far ... he may "go serious" in the next segment but he did a great job showing his personable side ...

great line by Kerry ... Regis asked Kerry how the debate negotiations were going ... Kerry said they agreed on three debates ... then he said there had been some hangups because bush wanted to be able to use a lifeline during the debates to call a friend ...

30. I didn't see the interview, so I'm just going by posts in this thread
I hope that Kerry and the campaign shy away from too many remarks suggesting that Bush is afraid or unable to hold his own in the debates. I saw Tad Devine on a show yesterday suggesting that things will change in Kerry's favor after the debates. Remarks like this will only lower the expectations for Bush and work against Kerry.

15. Kerry now talking about getting other countries involved in Iraq.
Kerry says someone has to "lead as if we're in the war we're in." What a good way to express what a failure Bush is!

And, he's off.

Short appearance, but a VERY GOOD ONE, I think!

21. Relaxed is the watchword ... because
so many people say Bush looks so comfy among "the people." I think he always looks like he's on the brink of disaster (because the next word he's struggling for is a million miles away) ... whereas Kerry looks VERY comfortable with who he is -- especially in this format. He's very witty when he chooses to be!

Bush to appear, but I'll bet he declines them all. Working without a script is too hard for him.

I know that I'm biased, but Kerry really is doing as well as people say he his. I was impressed last night on Letterman, and maybe even more so this morning. He was smooth, coherent, and he's really getting good at saying the right things for the right audience.

27. Kerry said the debate formats are "a little bit too formulated" for
his taste ... but "it'll be fine." The way he said it, you could tell he was putting down Bush about the way Bush has been dragging his feet about every little thing. Kerry knows he can debate anyone anywhere anytime in any format about any issue ...

I'm just afraid Bush will try to make it a "cutesy contest" -- who can say the most Hy-Larious thing to zing the other person and the issued be damned.

35. My rant....
I unfortunately missed Kerry on Letterman last night, but I was able to watch him on Kelly and Regis and it just occured to me, disgustingly enough, that I am getting more policy information listening to Kerry's answers to REGIS AND KELLY for cryin' out loud because they're actually asking questions that MATTER! Like, "how would you handle Iraq"???

Granted I know the answers already because I'm interested in politics, but why the hell aren't these conversations occuring on, oh I don't know...CNN, etc???

Gotta love the state of our "media". :eyes:

40. For those who missed it, here's the AP story
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20040921/D8583PJG0.html

Kerry: Bush Wanted Debate 'Life Lines'

NEW YORK (AP) - Why did it take so long for the Bush and Kerry campaigns to agree on a debate schedule? Sen. John Kerry had the answer for television's Regis Philbin, who has hosted the quiz show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"

"The big hang-up was George Bush wanted to get life lines, you know, so he could call somebody," the Democratic candidate for president quipped Tuesday while appearing on "Live With Regis and Kelly."
...

...Kerry campaign donors apparently come in all sizes. He told Philbin and Ripa that a woman in New York gave him $385 that her 8-year-old son had raised selling homemade campaign buttons, and a 6-year-old in Philadelphia handed over a plastic container with $685 he had earned selling homemade campaign bracelets.
