Obama looking forward to working with Franken
@ 4:17 pm by Jeremy P. Jacobs

The White House was quick to put out a release congratulating Democrat Al Franken after Republican Norm Coleman conceded the Minnesota Senate contest Thursday afternoon.

In the statement, President Obama focused on energy and healthcare reform - the two most pressing issues on the Democrat's agenda.

"I look forward to working with Senator-elect Franken to build a new foundation for growth and prosperity by lowering health care costs and investing in the kind of clean energy jobs and industries that will help America lead in the 21st century," Obama said.

1. I don't like the "lowering health care costs" - looks like a lot less than health care for everyone.

Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island has been temporarily filling the seat the Democrats reserved for Franken on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which has spent two weeks working on a complicated health-care overhaul that is expected to be completed July 10. The work on that bill has taken so long that Franken might still be able to participate.

Franken had argued for the urgency of resolving the court case because of his interest in participating in the health debate, which Democrats call their top domestic priority.

"N. Omaha to get plant, 200 jobs (in part, with federal stimulus money 4 green jobs)"

Published Tuesday June 30, 2009

A Minnesota company that makes environmentally friendly air duct piping announced plans today to open a plant in north Omaha, where it is expected to eventually create as many as 200 jobs.

CDC Enterprises Inc. will begin producing the plastic pipe used in heating and cooling once the company finds the right location, said President Jon Jugers.

Mayor Jim Suttle said the plant will create 30 jobs initially. That number eventually could grow to about 200, he said. The initiative is being funded, in part, with federal stimulus money.

4. Hey, the Magi have brought Obama and the Senate one gift: Franken sense!
Let's hope that one out of three is sufficient.
