Obama Admin Working to Restore President of Honduras
From the New York Times, this is stunning:

By Sunday night, officials in Washington said they had spoken with Mr. Zelaya and were working for his return to power in Honduras, despite relations with Mr. Zelaya that had recently turned colder because of the inclusion of Honduras in the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas, or ALBA, a leftist political alliance led by Venezuela.

The effort to engage Mr. Zelaya differed from Washington’s initial response to Venezuela’s brief coup in April 2002, when the Bush administration blamed Mr. Chávez for his own downfall and denied knowing about the planning of the coup, despite the revelation later that the Central Intelligence Agency knew developments about the plot in Caracas on the eve of its execution.

1. Don't tell the Obama/America hating Stalinist brigade here.
They're lapping up the "blame America" rhetoric from St. Hugo.

2. The Hugo lovers are very much comparable to the Stalin apologists in the 30s and 40s.

8. I said that?
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 12:21 AM by Alamuti Lotus
Well, that sounds like something I would say. Or rather, the mangled interpretation from people who are really, really not qualified to interpret what I say. Yes, I just insulted you there.

Thought I said they were silly dupes caught in a power struggle between rival factions of corrupt billionares, frauds, and other hypocrites.. but I could be mistaken.

5. Some people resemble cliches.
There are people here who would support Joseph Stalin against Barack Obama.

9. A country's congress wants him out...
Their courts want him out...

He's trying to use their military to advance his political agenda, forcing their military to run elections, in defiance of their Constitution...

And we're trying to keep him in?

What?

19. Not a coup. Constitutional crisis.
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 01:53 AM by boppers
1. I dunno why Obama has "chosen to support". He supports law, and law has ruled against Zelaya.
2. Like those who rent too few, or too many, porta-potties, there's often a gulf between logic and law.

Both camps have had supporters out, in the thousands(?!), at times. The pro-Zelaya camp thinks that the military should be allowed to run an election, to change a constitution, even though that's a power reserved for their congress. The anti-Zelaya camp thinks that using a military, to run an election, for the benefit of a president's agenda, should be illegal.

12. Watch the Obama/CIA is everywhere brigade do a 180 on this.
Suddenly Zelaya will become an evil fascist whose people want him out of power.

13. No, Obama will be viewed as an evildoer who lied to poor Zelaya
and has been bravely called out by St. Hugo.

Their reality has one foundation--that Hugo Chavez is always right.

15. I agree, but once re-instated, we should pressure Zelaya to respect the Supreme Court
Since the SC ruled that the referendum is unconstitutional.
If the SC is irrelevant in that nation, it might as well disappear.
