Progress going unnoticed .. Obama hamstrung the auto companies
to produce more efficient autos if they took the loan money. Maybe the cake is not completely iced, but things are getting done on some many levels, if we just step back and take a look.

Write your congress people, Write the President.. but for the love of GOD can't we also get behind them a little too when they are moving through all the molasses of DC.?

1. Many people cannot acknowledge that things don't all get
done at once. Unfortunately, Americans have been conditioned by advertisers to expect everything here and now. What we forget is that all those easy fixes are short term not long term.

The fixes that have to be done have to be incrementally and done correctly the first time. (I say this as a Project Manager in the IT field) the quick fixes may get the job done but in the long run we end up spending more money to fix the fuck ups of the quick fix.

Is he doing everything 100% correctly, no he is not but he is human. Humans are prone to mistakes but humans are also capable of fixing those mistakes.

2. Maddie, about two weeks ago someone posted from the site that is keeping
track of all of Obamas promises, made during the primaries. 500 of them. I took out the old calculator, and figuring just on a 4 year term, he had been in office 10% of the time he will spend in the 4 year term and had kept 22% of the promises he had made. And of course half of that time had been spent in setting up a government.

You are right, he is human and has made mistakes.. but I think he is doing all any one person could do.

9. Here you go...
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/

I put the promises kept, in the works and compromised (no one gets 100% of everything put forward, but he did put it on the table) together.

6. while the right suffers from a lock step mentality that keeps it mired in the past
the left suffers from a kind of self indulgence.

It's not about the progress that can be made its about how right I am in continuing to rail against the imperfections of America.

The curious irony is that the party that strives for more collectivist solutions to our economic problems and development is the party that has a strident individuality that tries to center attention on the promotion of the self promoting ideological individualist. Skreeds shouting the need for more collective action are done in solos designed to undermine solidarity, discipline and weaken party leadership.

Its really amazing anything gets done at all.

14. And for a lot of yesterdays, the workers who built the cars dealers sold were screwed
It is not like the problems just suddenly sprang up. Been going on and picking up more innocent bystanders (workers, families, businesses they can no longer patronize that end up laying more off...) as the snowball rolls down the hill of economic disaster.

So, while we do feel for those who recently lost their livelihood, there is no real way to fix it within the week. We have to figure out how to help ALL the workers who have been battered. Sadly, there are decades worth of those to be considered.

Burger King model (your way and done in 60 seconds) is not how the whole skewered system will be set right.

And it was not displaced workers I saw being called ingrates. Seemed that was aimed at the 'all my way and all RIGHT NOW' crowd. Lots of displaced workers, even while facing financial ruin, seem able to understand that it is the whole economic system that needs overhaul, and automakers are a part of the whole, not just what affects them directly.

But, hey, if instant fix and prosperity is the standard, it would be swell. Not seeing ANYONE on the horizon who can pull it off though.

10. people loved the idea that he was THEIR president.
meaning, their own personal president. but turns out they had to share him. had to share him with people they hate, even. like republicans and rich people.
but this is why he will succeed in the long run. he takes very seriously the obligation to be the president of all the people. it will take time for him to earn the trust of much of the citizenry. but once that happens, we will be able to make great progress as a nation.
