Just heard Paul Krugman on NPR talking about the climate bill...
Seemed pretty happy about it...in fact given that he is not shy about being criticial of ideas he thinks are bad or do not go far enough...downright ecstatic. He pointed out that a cap and trade system does exist...it was used to reduce acid rain...and also points out it has worked beautifully...

So on one side we have Al Gore...who is apparently DU's new corporate stooge whipping boy, Henry Waxman and Paul Krugman..

And on the other...the Republican Party, a bunch of coal and swing state democrats and Dennis Kucinich...

Personally, having looked at the debate, seen what the bill will do, and knowing where we have to get too...looks to me like Gore, Krugman and Waxman are on the correct side of this debate...

Looks like a very good bill to me!

1. League of Conservation Voters supported it
I think my Congressman plays both ends against the middle. He can tell the loggers he didn't vote for it and he can tell the left he didn't vote for it - and the middle has got nowhere to go. It's getting old.

LCV:

I am writing with very exciting news!

The House of Representatives has just passed H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACES), by a vote of 219-212. For the first time ever, America has a comprehensive clean energy and global warming bill with the potential to transform our economy by creating clean energy jobs, improving our national security, and protecting our planet from global warming pollution.

LCV was in the fight of our lives to secure passage of the bill. This historic victory for the environment could not have happened without LCV supporters like you.

Big Oil and its cronies launched an opposition campaign that was tough, well-funded, and relentless. Thanks to more than 70,000 calls and over 60,000 emails to your Representatives, as well as generous financial support for our intensive national grassroots and lobbying campaign, we were able to stand up to the corporate and special interests who tried to sabotage this bill at every turn.

This vote is the single most important environmental vote these Representatives have taken in their careers. We applaud those members who voted on the right side of history and recognized that a safer, healthier planet and a new energy economy hang in the balance. And we will hold accountable those who sided with business-as-usual special interests and tried to kill this critical legislation.

Now that the House has passed this historic bill, it is on to the Senate. Everything we are hearing on the Hill tells us that Big Oil will continue to spread their lies in order to sabotage our chances to transition to a clean energy future. The fight will not be easy, but I assure you, LCV will be doing everything in our power to see this legislation becomes law.

The stakes could not be higher, but with your support and with the resources and experience we've gained from over 40 years in Washington, we will not give up. The future of the planet hangs in the balance, and we cannot afford to let up now.

Get up-to-the-minute information on the progress of this bill by visiting www.lcv.org regularly. We will keep you up to speed on developments as they happen.

Thank you for your support of LCV, for the messages you send to your leaders, and for all that you do for our planet.

Sincerely,

Gene Karpinski
President

2. Repower America did awesome work on this..
Dear cha,

Your Representative, out of just a handful, may decide whether historic energy and climate legislation passes today. It has come down to a handful of Members of Congress and Rep. Arcuri is one of them.

Please call Rep. Arcuri immediately: 877-9-REPOWER (877-9-737-6937)

We'll connect you to your Representative after giving you talking points. Just be sure to tell them to support comprehensive clean energy legislation.

And then report your call so that we can coordinate this last minute campaign:

http://www.RepowerAmerica.org/page/s/targetacesreport

The schedule is fluid, but as I'm writing, the House will vote on the American Clean Energy and Security Act early this afternoon. Please call Rep. Arcuri now.

Thanks for everything you do,

Steve Bouchard
Campaign Manager

P.S. See the note below just written by Al Gore this morning.
----------
From: Al Gore
Subject: Today is an historic opportunity

Today is an historic opportunity to pass truly meaningful legislation to limit global warming pollution, vastly expand our use of renewable energy, and use energy far more efficiently. A victory today in the House of Representatives on the American Clean Energy and Security (ACES) Act would represent an essential first step towards solving the climate crisis. This bill doesn't solve every problem, but passage today means that we build momentum for the debate coming up in the Senate and negotiations for the treaty talks in December which will put in place a global solution to the climate crisis.

There is no back-up plan. There is not a stronger bill waiting to pass the House of Representatives. It's time to get started on a plan that will create jobs, increase our national security, and build the clean energy economy that will Repower America.

Sincerely,

Al Gore

3. What amazes me is
all those who would accuse anyone who says a word in support of the President as being blindly loyal are blindly loyal when it comes to anything Dennis Kucinich does.

Can you say hypocrisy?

8. I'm not in support of C&T, but carb tax. However, I even realize it's a decent bill.
That will do a considerable amount of good.
