They supported a bill their members LOATHED and the members left in droves and their credibility as an "advocacy group" was shot. Their members were smart, they were informed, they knew what a crock it was.

Just sayin'.

Alittle history here.

1. Anyone who doesn't support a public option...will not receive

$1, 1-minute of volunteer time, or 1 vote from me.

5. And it damn well better be a strong public option
not something that has been set up to fail.

4. I think it is more like the DADT bill--they compromised and look what they got.
Dems and others seem to want a big reform bill--any bill will do--just to get it passed.

6. AARP became an insurance profiteer even before that

Just took a bit of reckoning for folks to see it up close and personal.

Same sort of deal is happening to the Democrats- particularly several certain Democrats.

7. We must have health care reform this year
After seeing what is called quality health care in Tennessee and Virginia, I totally support public option. Profit Care is more important than Patient Care in America. http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62

8. In the public's eye
the economy is still the bush/republican problem,
the war is still their problem.

But whatever bill they settle for will be Obama's. Don't bother to tell me that the bill is beaten all to hell by the republicans. The public is going to see this as Obama's bill. The neocons, insurance corporations, AMA, and pharma all colluded to twist and compromise what the Clintons tried 16 years ago. Even here on DU, that bastardized attempt is known as the Hillary Plan. Anyone who really followed what went on then will know that the crappy plan that they ended up with wasn't what was intended. The people who crapped all over that attempt are the same ones going after this one.

If we compromise and distort the meaning of public option just so that some republican somewhere will vote for it, we will be damned with the same brush that the media and public used to tar Hillary. We would be better off if our president declared clearly and resolutely what is meant by a true public option and vow to veto any bill that tried to pull the wool over the eyes of the public.

I believe that right now (for a while) Obama has the trust of the public. If he told them that forces were trying to profit from their misery and that he was going to uphold his oath of office to protect them from that kind of bill, the public would believe him. If he has to veto a bill that is not right, there will be plenty of stuff in it that he can use to show the public why it needed vetoing. Make congress do it again.

Audacity, not timidity.

9. Im about ready to stick a fork in the Democratic party
If they do what I think they are going to do, basically a toothless token bill, I'm done with them.

The republicans control the Democrats. Even when the Democrats have total power. It is a lose lose proposition with the Dems and GOP.

It is time for a strong third party to emerge.
