The Republican's rapid response team consists of a group of people...
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 12:30 AM by Drunken Irishman
Who sit around a television and wait for Pres. Obama to release a statement so they can come out with the exact opposite.

Pres. Obama was as forceful as one could get from the get go. He questioned the regime, the legitimacy of the election and then spoke out in favor of the Iranian people and their rights.

But that wasn't good enough for the Republicans.

Had Pres. Obama come out in the wake of the election and discussed the possibility of funneling money to the anti-government forces in Iran, the Republicans would have balked.

"This is an Iranian issue! Let the Iranians own this revolution! If we get involved, we'll risk becoming a political football!"

:eyes:

Face it, McCain and his ilk would have said the exact opposite of what Obama actually said, even if deep down they agreed with him.

That's how the Republicans operate. Obama could say the sky is blue and they'd fight him tooth and nail on that one. :eyes:

1. I think there is more too it than that
Assuming the Republicans want a successful democratic Iran is, in my opinion, a big mistake.

If they can't have a puppet, I think their strategists see more value in a scary bad Iran of terror than in a free democratic Iran. They would happily watch any real peoples movement in Iran be undermined by US interference, even if there was no Obama to criticize.

2. I think they want to find something, anything, to attack Pres. Obama on and this is it.
It gives them an opening.

How can he be more forceful?

That's just it.

Republicans say he isn't saying enough.

Well what do they want him to say?

They don't say.

That's a lot of says! Ha!

4. actually, I believe it's more the tactic of preparing two arguments ...
one for, one against ...

and when Obama comes out with his statement, they drop the one which matches his, and runs with the opposite ...
