Obama To Chuck Todd: Take Your 24-Hour News Cycle And Shove It
Obama To Chuck Todd: Take Your 24-Hour News Cycle And Shove It

At his presser just now, President Obama offered a surprisingly harsh response to MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, who asked Obama repeatedly why it was that he wouldn’t outline “consequences” for the violence towards Iranian protesters.

Obama said it was too early to see how things were going to “play out.” After Todd persisted, Obama rejoined, sharply:

“I know everybody here is on a 24 hour news cycle. I’m not.”

Obama and his advisers have repeatedly disparaged the D.C. cable bubble as petty and distracting from the country’s challenges, though the White House happily uses good cable coverage to its advantage on occasion. I guess Obama wants to make it clear that he won’t handle sensitive international crises on cable’s clock, either.

11. Here's the exchange (from LA Times)
Exchanges bordering on testy continued between President Obama and the press corps over Iran during his news conference today.

When a reporter said Obama had hinted that there might be human rights abuses taking place in Iran, he quickly responded: “I’m not hinting. I think when a young woman gets shot on the street, that’s a problem.”

The reporter pressed him to spell out how the government would respond if problems in Iran continue. Obama said the administration was monitoring the situation. The reporter pressed him further, asking why he wouldn’t spell out the consequences Iran could face.

Obama replied, “I know everyone here’s on a 24-hour news cycle. I’m not.”

21. contrast Obama with his predecessor ...
"Liberal media" hits Obama with a quick, hard question ... cool Obama responds intellectually, seriously, and respectfully.

"Liberal media" lofts a softball question to Bush43 (on the rare occasion that he actually fields a question) ... Bush43 fumbles, mumbles, slurs his words, and comes up with a statement which may or may not relate to the question asked ... once the statement is translated into English by his handlers ...

7. Yes. This attitude he is bringing today is excellent. Absolutely zero wiggle room for the morons
and their parroting of inane notions and falsehoods.

This is the President I love seeing in action. Absolutely owning that room with his intelligence, wit, and clearly above-the-fray attitude.

24. Yes, he was firm and made a good point about how private insurance
should be able to compete with a public plan. I've been saying this forever.

6. Those assholes won't be happy until he sings "Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran"
from the podium in the Rose Garden.

And then they'll whine he didn't sing it loud enough and is therefore a p...y.

"Have you seen how many prison documentaries we run? We're not on a 24 hours news cycle either!"

15. Absolute DUzy.
I got home kind of late last night. I have two relatives who take the DC Metro, and wanted more televised info on the crash. Between Larry King and the Freak Show CNN HLN has become ... and trying to pick the right time to tune to Keith to get more info ... ridiculous.

I eventually went online, of course, and got what I needed.

24-hour news cycle my Aunt Fanny! We need a new Headline News that does what its title says.

18. UpChuck and MSNBC woke up on Monday and started playing catch-up.
After their usual weekend binge on prisons, the Monday hangover leads to stupid questions, I guess.

Chuckie ... you don't want to wind up in a Michael Moore movie, like Paul Wolfowitz and his comb.

17. ROLF. He was feisty today! I love it. Loved the response to the
question about whether his "harsher" line in Iran was due to John McCain's comments. Obama laughed and said "what do you think?" Bwhahahahahah.

The smoking question was embarrassing in it's irrelevance and stupidity. Smoking is not and never has been a crime so it's none of the presses business if Obama smokes on occasion. And the dumbass who asked the question was looking all indignant when Obama slapped her down.

Jesus, how stupid do you have to be to become a White House correspondent?

Chuck Todd always asks the worst questions...he's asked MAYBE one good question of all the times I've seen him. Ha, didn't Obama joke at the radio and tv event last Friday that Chuck has a "face for radio"?

30. Neither is MSNBC.. They had nada..zip..zilch on the weekend, about Iran
Their 24-hour weekend cycle was about 20 yr old "pre-solved" crimes, wacko criminals in jail and little else, even though there was breaking news in Iran..
