2. I honestly don't know.
I thought Gore would wipe the floor with him and he didn't. Kerry's not good at short answers, so I'm just not sure. It depends on the questions, how much Bush has prepared/knows in advance, etc.

Someone like Clinton would destroy him in a debate.

4. My bet is on Kerry simply because he has the experience
of being in war, being shot at, and having to make quick decisions like his life depended on it.

Kinda like the debate will be..............only this time all
of our lives will depend on it.

3. The only undefeated debater I know of, George W. Bush.
The press constantly underrates him--they should really do their homework on this.

5. I agree

Kerry might as well just go home after the debates are done. No chance. Bush is just so charasmatic.

6. This is one place where I actually am in awe of him.
As a worthy opponent of course...but "worthy opponent" sounds like someone you like playing Scrabble with...George W. Bush is a full-on keg of beat-down. I wouldn't be surprised if Kerry has trouble getting the words to leave his throat and gets choked-up and nervous. I'm disappointed that he's on the other side, but he is a master at his art.

7. Kerry will, imo
But if you watch or listen to the news, then Shrub will be declared the debate champion.

8. Face reality, folks. George W. Bush has never lost a debate
I'll accept Kerry not curling up into a fetal position and sucking his thumb after shitting his pants as close enough to a win on this one.

Bush will really smear him in the town hall format. Bush is at his best in this format.

9. Kerry will want someone to put him in a lock box partway through.
I wouldn't be surprised if he ran to Al Gore in the audience.

13. no he;s not
bush is only good in that when all the questions he hears are from his base. When a tough-nosed dem asks him a question that he won't expect, he's gonna look like a moron.

10. Bush will easily beat Kerry in the debates
our only hope is that Kerry will be able to get through all 3 debates.

14. Kerry will if he doesn't come across as too much of an
intellectual. I don't think the American public can relate very well with someone who gives intelligent answers. Bush will answer his questions like John Wayne and the great unwashed will love it. Kerry needs to give concise answers and look friendly.

We have to remember that these aren't really debates. The moderator will pose a question and each candidate will give a mini-speech that closest resembles the question. I don't think we'll learn anything new.

16. Is this serious?
I mean, everyone is saying that Bush* will wipe the floor with Kerry in the debates... is this sarcasm, or correct? How exactly are debates "scored" (to know that Bush* has never "lost" a debate)?

There are plenty of DUers who say that Bush* is a master debater, and I was one of the people who voted for Bush* in this poll.

Bush could sit there and pick his nose and he'd be declared the winner by the press.

23. with his command of the facts and his elocutional skills
bush will clobber kerry, i'm afraid. god, i'm afraid.

why did kerry have to agree to debate bush? this was insanity on his campaign's part.

the man's never lost a debate in his entire life. all he has to do is show up and it's pretty much all over.

24. FOLKS
He's NEVER LOST A DEBATE!! Is this fact lost on all at DU? He shall swing into every debate from a chandelier and lop the proverbial head of John Kerry clean of his lifeless body and deliver it on a silver platter to the gushing, effusive audience and moderators. Then he'll take a few shots, do a line, and go shoot up some beer cans.
