DU'ers: Are you depressed?!?! Here is some good news!!

From Dailykos -

President Bush's Ratings Slip to Lowest Level of His Presidency, According to Latest Harris Poll

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - September 17, 2004 - President Bush's ratings have slipped to 45 percent positive and 54 percent negative, the lowest ratings of his presidency, according to a new Harris Poll. These numbers compare to 50 percent positive, 49 percent negative in June and 48 percent positive, 51 percent negative in August. This downward trend no doubt helps to explain why the lead which the president enjoyed over Senator Kerry immediately after the Republican convention in New York - the so-called "convention bounce" - has now disappeared.

18. Great news!!
I know polls don't mean much, but I just feel more comfortable about Kerry in the lead. New Mexico should now be considered a strong Kerry state; he is absolutelt destroying Bush there! Let's hope we can swing that to AZ! And Kerry is pulling up strong in Florida, Arkansas, and Pennsylvania. Kerry has really been gaining ground in Arkansas - let's hope a surprise visit by Clinton can rally the troops to Kerry! I really think the Iraq situation is destroying Bush. And while the mass media has been killing Kerry and the dems of late, it's great to see some moderate repubs saying that Bush is a complete moron when it comes to Iraq. This is showing up like the most momentum for Kerry in over a month, and it's coming at the right time! Let's keep it going DUers! You rock!

9. Thanks, I'm bummed, and so is my husband.
He's been bummed for awhile, though. Thinks the GOP-controlled media machine has it locked for *. Today was no different with the outlets spending more time on the CBS memos than they did the original story.

If Bush's performance ratings are so low, why is he still ahead of Kerry in most of the polls I've seen (I don't count Gallup)?

11. That's my question, too...
The polls don't necessarily show him ahead, but at least neck-and-neck, and yet I've seen several reports recently that more than half the people polled think he's doing a bad job or don't like the direction the country is going. And then I read for at least one poll where they broke that statistic down--of the people who said they thought the country was going in the wrong direction, something like 10% of them still said they were voting for GWB. WHY?????? Do they somehow think he's going to wise up? Or do they honestly think Kerry would do worse? I just don't get it.

I don't remember where I read that--it was one of the poll links here, but darn if I can remember which one.

That's what they're running on, because that's all they've got.

If you look at the surveys, including Zogby, the only issue that Bush beats Kerry on is being a "strong leader" and "the war on terror". It's what's keeping him afloat, which is why they've gone overboard with the "Vote Kerry and Die" message.

Unfortunately, his appeal on those issues has actually gone up, so it must be working.

Kerry needs to hit him hard on this, it's Bush's only strong point, and if that goes, so goes this admin...

13. What's ironic is how weak Bush actually is when it comes to homeland secur
Many, many examples of how he has made the US LESS safe than before 9/11 and the bad decisions he has made on the war against terror.

14. Bizarro World
That's what we live in. Orwellian, really. The less safe they make us, the more people are afraid, therefore they vote for the "strong leader".

We have to stop the lie.

15. A lot of the "wrong direction" people are fundies
They see the US turning into a place where gays can get married and abortions will remain legal and the courts "remove religion" from everything. So, they vote for Bush* to stop it. Bush* to the barricades against the heathen hordes!

Laughable, but that's the way they think.

Get out and register voters! Nothing makes you feel better than directly witnessing the extent of anti-Bush sentiment in this country. Young, old, rich, poor, we are everywhere!

20. And kind of even better news..
I hate to add this, but the Harris poll only goes up until 9-13....the week for Bush was not good, but that also means it was not good for our soldiers in Iraq....

21. Kerry's the man!
I ignore the polls, especially the ones that don't mention partisan bias. I really think there will be a swarm of new voters who will vote for Kerry. I know of several, there must be more!
