CBS report DID NOT say that the memos were fakes or forgeries
The only thing mentioned was Burkett's two different versions of who gave him the docs. There was no new evidence or admission of any type of forgery.

So we still don't know.

6. I agree.....more questions than answers in my mind.....Burkett says the
info is true.....there has to be more to this story that we don't know...CBS is way too public with this...the secretary's interview and now Burkett....something is missing in this picture...even Rather didn't seem sincere...CBS has an ace somewhere.

3. You can't help but admire Rather though, pure class.
Truly the last of the great journalists.

4. doesn't matter....they allowed a LIAR to admit he LIED to them
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 05:59 PM by buycitgo
CBS is going to get heavily reamed on this

but the POINT of this should be: if somebody LIES to you, how can you believe anything they ever say again?

so I started this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x847832

this is something the dems could/should USE

Bush lies all the time....start listing them, and presenting them to the public

the media still slavishly pushes the lie that Bush is NOT a liar; indeed, they keep saying that one of his main strengths, uh, LIES in the fact, according to them, that he's HONEST--a straight shooter

that BS MUST be set straight, once and for all

5. Forgery just a rumor started on FR.
Too many of us here take it as fact, but there is no evidence of forgery.

The simplest explanation for all the strange details is that these are backups that Killian typed himself:

7. Right, we watched the forgery rumor devleop before our very eyes
People were posting the FR thread where they were hatching it up. Next thing you know it's accepted wisdom.

8. I worry that CNN may be relying on Drudge or FR,

and that the Washington Post interviewed "experts" who were speaking outside their experience.

Case in point: Newcomer implying the "fl" was a ligature; Newcomer denying the 68 memo had a superscript; Phinney saying the type widths were not available for 1972 typewriters.

Whereas Knox stated that her typewriter could have made the documents in question, just that she didn't type them; which leads me to speculate that Killian typed these versions himself, and that hers were scrubbed.
