6. That's not as bad as hauling Newt out all the time
What's it been, 10 years since he held public office? Well at least I haven't had to look at that traitor Oliver North for a long time. Hopefully he's crawled back under a rock somewhere and will stay there.

7. For some reasons that I do not get, Democrats are totally absent on TV.
Where are they hiding? After McCain, NBC had a story about a report from Coburn where he rants that the stimulus money was used for some projects that would not have been made otherwise. I thought that was the plan: make money flow again.

I saw McCain and zapped to CBS where Lugar at least was not ready to declare war on Iran. Still wondering where the Dems were though.

10. Joe Biden spoke on it on Sunday
I assume that it President Obama, Secretary of State Clinton or any other administration foreign policy person made themselves available, they would be welcomed on TV as well. Other than Biden, the comments have been noticeably terse and expressing vague concerns. I suspect they may feel things are at a delicate stage. Biden's comments though more extensive said the same thing that HRC said in her two sentences - that may be as far as they wanted to go.

As to Senate Democrats, it may be that the news media sees the administration as the Democratic voice and then looks to the opposition (the Republicans) for their side. I do think there should have been either an administration person or a Senator countering Coburn.

8. The fact is that John Kerry appeared on cable and shows like the Today show in 2005
I was glad he was there. I wish that Dick Lugar was the Republican they went to more often on foreign policy because he is more knowledgeable and less partisan. The fact that he is less partisan is likely why he is not there - it makes sharper TV to have a bigger contrast with the President.

9. My problem is not the presence of Republicans. It is the absence of Democrats.

13. This is reinforcing the notion that Obama is alone against the GOP. This is still not good.
Edited on Tue Jun-16-09 07:35 AM by Mass
Happy he is speaking out, but he should not be the only voice. Senators and Congresspeople are representative of the people too and they should be present and speak out as well, and not relie on the president to do all the heavy lifting.

If the only voices that are heard are GOPers and corporate Democrats, how do you hope that people will understand there are other available options. It is the Democrats' responsibility to get out there and fight for what they have been elected to do, rather than hiding to make compromises that have not yet been asked for.

12. He basically wants Obama to call Mahmoud a sham and a fraud
A molotov cocktail thrown from the back bench. Meantime, doing that now would permanently weaken the protesters, who could then be protrayed as pro-American lackeys.

Inflame the situation, but will disappoint pro-West groups.
