Thought you all would like to read this reply from my Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown from an email I sent him about gaining more help for MS patients like my son who has Progressive MS. It is very encouraging and I am hopeful that this bill will pass and these medicines will be available for all who need it for their quality of life!

Thank you for contacting me in regard to the importance of accessible and affordable medicine.

I appreciate and agree with the view that our laws ensuring access to generic versions of prescription drugs must be strengthened.

That is why I recently partnered with Senators Schumer and Collins and Representatives Waxman and Deal to introduce the Promoting Innovation and Access to Life-Saving Medicine Act (S. 726). This bill would establish a regulatory path for the approval of safe, biosimilar versions of brand-name biologics. Like generic drugs, these biosimilars would expand patient choice and increase price competition in the prescription drug marketplace. Biologics are the most expensive subset of prescription medicines, typically ranging in price from $10,000 to $100,000 per patient, per year. Access to safe and effective, but less expensive, versions of brand-name biologics is clearly in the public interest, and I am working hard to ensure that this bill is included in any forthcoming health care reform bill.

Please be assured that I will continue to fight for legislation that would improve access to affordable medicines.
