16. GMTA ... It really is. I don't, however, get the impression they share their mom's love of jazz.
They sure do know that SHE likes it, though. Trippin'.

That's OK ... jazz is something one GROWS to love. Not many kids like it.

3. There she goes wearing all white again....
.... and looking snazzy! ;)

This is the first in a series of events like this designed to introduce young musicians to the greats of their respective fields.

7. You see the kids, they listen to the rap music which gives them the brain damage...
...with their hippin' and their hoppin' and their bippin and their boppin.

They really don't know what THE JAZZ is all about!

You see, jazz is like a Jello Pudding Pop...or more like Kodak Film.

Actually, jazz is like the new Coke...it'll be around forever!

9. Hey! Wynton Marsalis received an Honorary degree at my daughter's Graduation
along with a few other dignitaries! He brought and played his horn as well.
I was thrilled! But my (know it all) daughter is a Jazz Fan and student,
and doesn't appreciate him as much as others.
She was having a debate about this; her and a friend.
I listened only, as I know little about Jazz, other than
I like a whole lot of it!

19. There were apparently 5 Marsalis family members there
http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2009/06/nocca_students_head_to_the_whi.html

The White House will be turned into a school of jazz Monday, with the East Room, the State Dining Room and the Diplomatic Reception Room serving as classrooms where a passel of Marsalises will teach the "syntax of jazz" and a seminar in swing.

Fourteen students from the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts are among a select group of willing pupils. . . .

Ellis Marsalis was the first chairman of the NOCCA jazz department, and his sons have taught and still teach there. NOCCA counts among its alumni Branford, Wynton, Delfeayo and Jason Marsalis -- all of whom will be at the White House Monday, where they will be joined by jazz greats Sean Jones, Stephen C. Massey, Todd Williams and Eli Yamin.

21. Wow. I know about (and have heard) Ellis, Wynton, and Bradford.
I didn't know that two other (younger) brothers were also jazz musicians. Gawd!! What an incredibly talented family!

When I lived in Rochester, NY, I often went to the Eastman School for events featuring a wide range of talent. Further, a local restaurant near my home was the favorite of the Mangione family and they'd often be there, particularly when an out-of-town 'visitor' (like Dizzy Gillespie) was in town. It was a joy to visit local jazz clubs almost every weekend and wallow in some of the greatest jazz talent in the world, from Marian McPartland to Chuck Mangione to Dave Brubeck.
