Lieberman won't back public option
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said this weekend that he opposes a public option plan for consumers in a healthcare reform plan to emerge from the Senate.

"I don't favor a public option," Lieberman told Bloomberg News in an interview broadcast this weekend. And I don't favor a public option because I think there's plenty of competition in the private insurance market."

Lieberman's decision joins several other centrist Democrats' decision to have publicly refused to back the plan, derided as a "government-run" plan by Republicans.

5. He is a piece of crap of course but I don't blame him too much for this
All those insurance companies are headquartered in his home state.

Having defended him a bit I still believe he should be purged from the Democratic party rolls.

And he should be barred from ever appearing on TV so nobody has to hear his fucking droopy dog voice.

6. The only "competition" in the private insurance market
Edited on Sun Jun-14-09 05:58 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
is deciding WHICH company will rob us blind of our money and deprive of us of medical coverage, particularly when we need it the most, you know, for that life-saving treatment and/or operation. There do not seem to be any fundamental differences between any of them in this regard AFAIK, which is why we need REAL alternatives or a whole new system entirely whose principles treat basic health care as a universal right rather than a "luxury".

19. He is among many FOOLS
In East Tennessee and southwest Virginia, I have seen what is deemed, defended and supported as "the acceptable standards of health care" http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62 Clearly PROFIT CARE is more important than PATIENT CARE. How many more will die thanks to the greed and mislead health care system we have now.

8. Well this is no surprise
If the competition in the private market was so adequate, why do we have so many uninsured, under-insured, and overcharged?

9. This is another example of Democratic dithering.
Why do many independents question the willingness of Democrats to be hard-nosed on foreign policy issues where our interests require it?
Because we let even whiny little ass-wipes like Joe kick sand in our face again and again without paying any penalty for the disrespect.
He ran AGAINST a good Democrat in the last election and not only endorsed, but actually campaigned for McCain last year. What "disciplinary measures" were taken against such betrayal? He should have been hung out to dry.
Conrad and Baucus and Nelson should be told to get on board with health care, card check and other pending issues or forget ANY consideration for re-election assistance or committee participation.
What's that? They might switch parties?
I hope the door DOES hit them in the ass on their way out.

10. All that "competition" increases cost
If competition worked in health care, we would have the cheapest system with the best outcomes: instead, it's the most expensive, with comparatively poor outcomes.

Does Lieberman go with the lowest bidder for health care? If not, he needs to STFU about the supposed virtues of "competition," especially since the only thing insurance corporations compete on is who can deny the most claims.

12. I don't want "government-run" healthcare
I just want what Joe Lieberman has for insurance. The "plenty" of options he refers to means that in my family of four we can pay $2400/month for semi-decent insurance or pay $1500/month for somewhat-OK insurance. Nice options, huh Joe? What do YOU pay Mr. Lieberman? Nothing? How nice for you.
I'm not asking for FREE insurance, I'm asking for the option of buying the insurance that Medicare patients get and US employees get. And I'd like to have my doctor prescribe a med that he doesn't have to fight with my insurance company to get covered, I'd like my husband to get the hip surgery he needs for the avascular necrosis in his hip joint without having to beg and justify why he needs it. Does walking without agony sound like a good enough reason? Not to our insurance company.

Joe Lieberman can kiss my ass. If he gets injured doing it - no worry, he's got great coverage - it won't cost him a penny. If I get injured while kicking him squarely in his tiny gonads, I will have to come up with a big co-pay before I can get treatment. That is, if my insurance company feels like they are responsible for the cost of my injury. It seems to me that insurance company-run healthcare is what Mr. Lieberman and his friends are suggesting for me. How is that better than the "government-run" system we already have in place for seniors, the indigent, the disabled and well-paid US Congressmen?

28. There is no competition in the private insurance market. Most businesses
allow their employees to pick one week a year amongst a few options they give you. You call that a market Lieberman? How many times have you switched insurance while a Senator because of all these options you have?
