Single payer health care: big breakthroughs, interview with Rep. John Conyers
Less than a month after 13 single payer advocates were arrested protesting the exclusion of single payer, it is at the table in both Houses, making progress while the multi-payer pro-insurance reform is faltering.

When we started our campaign one month ago to put single payer national health insurance on the table, we were ignored. When we stood up and demanded that single payer be part of the debate, we were arrested.

Today, single payer is breaking through, while the multi-payer pro-health insurance reform is faltering.

Here’s the news: Single payer national health insurance will be at the table in the Senate with a witness participating in a hearing this Thursday. And, on Wednesday, a hearing is being held on single payer in the House of Representatives.

Although it is late in policy development to be invited to the table, at least we will be able to finally speak. Thank you DU for going to bat for single payer. We must fight on.

DU rocks.

1. How would single payer create 2.6 million jobs?
Is that a net job creation number? It doesn't sound like it.

7. I think it would create more entrepreneurism if it was easier to start
businesses and hire talent that wasn't afraid of losing coverage.

8. Probably by hiring as government employees those people who
will be losing their jobs in the private insurance sector. (snark)

Also, a new government system will require a whole lot of advanced tech folks and a whole lot of new computers and a whole lot of hardware support people and a whole lot of software support people going forward. All the medicare offices will need to expand staff and technology to handle all the new clients for single payer and getting all of the current medical records and new records into a working system will regard a lot of staff.

I'm all for it. I can't not even imagine the process. But, we are a large developed country and we can do it.

16. Every other developed country in the WORLD....
....has managed to institute some form of Government Guaranteed Health Care.

Don't let your politicians tell you that Single Payer is too hard for America,
that we can't do it because "we would have to start from scratch".

From Yes We Can to No We Can't in less than 4 months.
Total BULLSHIT!

Don't settle for LESS.

10. Why wouldn't it?
Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 12:02 PM by Oregone
An entire sector of risk is removed from consumers life, thereby encouraging more consumer spending. A heavy expense is removed from the employers, thereby encouraging their growth and making it easier for small businesses to start up.

20. Very simple. Every single public and private employer would be free of profit taking middlement
Therefore they would be able to hire many more people to do real work.

15. Yep, that is about right.
After all, the President wanted dinner served and eaten in a hurry.

I guess, we have waited so long to have Health care "REFORM" that we cannot wait another week or two to have real REFORM!

17. I would rather there be more pressure on getting it right and
having a full, open discussion with all groups instead of getting it done by a certain time.

:(

19. Thought so...
starting to think we'll get whatever they decide to label as the public option...just pick door number three.

We've been told there is a car behind the door, although we have no idea of the make, model or condition....but it is a car.

:hi:
